Excellent narrative room-clearing puzzle game with witty writing and enjoyable characters. If you liked Chimera Squad you'll love this.

An absolute blast of a game to play, especially with friends. Weapons and stratagems feel great to use, and the stupid campy Starship Troopers vibe adds a great humor to the whole package. The only drawbacks (assuming Sony restores access in restricted countries) is that it's pretty intense on the hardware and there's definitely a bit of jank sometimes.

Short but masterfully made. I have nothing negative to say about this game. One of the best singleplayer games I have ever played.

This is a wonderful indie game that hits the XCOM tactical gameplay just right. I want to preface this review by saying while I am unlikely to play more than 10-15 hours of this game, I am absolutely happy to support an indie dev who knows the essence of the genre.

The good: I have ~1000 hours in the XCOM franchise at this point and all of my intuitions on how to play the game came into play here. It feels like home, but your furniture is spewing rats and your plasma got replaced by steampunk. The art, weapon sfx, and music all elevate the experience.

The bad: It's pretty short and pretty easy. I ran through the whole game on my first attempt on normal difficulty and by about halfway through the second of three chapters, I could kill pretty much every enemy before it could ever attack me, and I stopped taking damage. My squad was the starting group of Mycroft, Tilly, Gideon, Michael, and support bot. Between Gideon's mass overwatch picking off half of a pod as it entered range, Tilly's reaper (not actual name) and unmissable melees, Mycroft's 6 free action shots (each having a chance to proc hair trigger and refund 2ap), Michael granting extra actions, and the support bot preventing weapons from overheating, nothing stood a chance. My stockpile of grenades, stimpacks, and fusion cores swelled to the point of not even considering how many I had because I would never spend all of them. Enemy progression stopped with vermin elites that equate somewhere around advanced advent MECs, so there were never capital threats like the Sectopod, Gatekeeper, or Ethereal to really set the pace for a pod.

The nitpicking: As great as the art is, it became a little hard to distinguish some of my characters from each other as well as some enemies from each other. This would probably be resolved with time, but being unable to see unit names unless you're targeting them is unfortunate.

I know I just spent a lot of words saying how not great this game is, but it's much harder to describe how many of the little design decision I really do love. Maybe a play through on hard is warranted to see the full extent of the game's difficulty but at the end of the day I wouldn't want to see any real changes to the core systems. Small but well-made and fun.

Early Access Review
This game has steadily declined over the past few years from the simple make a bot, fight for 2 minutes, repeat, to the buff-nerf, new items ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ it is today
