I like this evolution of the co-op shooter genre. It's engaging, there's world-building and story-building. Good graphics, nice interaction with the world. Enjoyable!

Look, there are a lot of reviews about this game, and I don't think I can add some interesting new views to that,

Instead, I'll just share that I have over 476 hours played in the game on GoG. I like the game so much I paid for it again on steam, full price, because I felt like supporting the developers some more. You might really, _really_ enjoy this one. :-D

Even after all this time, I find myself replaying the game for the story. Albeit on easy mode to make some pace. :-D

This game is built different. The mechanics are fresh, and it does inner dialogue like I have not seen in any other game.
It also does world building very well; graphics, music, story, dialogue, voicing, etc. all fit very well together to create a unique atmosphere.

Even though the game includes a lot of randomness - through skill-based dice rolls - I do not feel the need for save scumming, because in this game, there appear to by many, many paths to achieve progress, where one is not really "better" than another. Just, different, depending on how you build your character. One aspect that plays a role in this, is that experience points feel useful, but not a goal in and of itself. They are used to build the character in depth, rather than simply just improve HP, DPS, etc. It feels more like expanding a tool belt, in stead of simply making the individual tools bigger and better.

I would highly recommend this game to anyone that has the time to be absorbed in a new world and experience in-depth character development, a thoroughly built world with a lot of flavor. Just make sure you have the time for longer sessions, because - for me at least - it's not fit for short bursts, or to play when distractions are likely.

The setting, visuals and audio contribute to an atmosphere I enjoyed a lot. The story is archetypically dramatic, which of course also fits the setting. However, I was never surprised by the developments and would argue that the story is not a main selling point for the game.

It's a bit of a bummer that some achievements require the online functionality, which has been discontinued by WB. Other than that I did not feel that I missed out on something significant.

It's like nethack set in space! Admittedly a lot easier to finish, but still makes you put an effort to get to the end. While a lot of things seem totally random and out of control, you do actually get better at this game when you play it again and again. There is enough variety in the available tactics to to keep you playing, and even go back to it when you forgot about the game for a bit. ;-)
