I wake to silence,
not the peaceful kind,
but the heavy, suffocating hush
that wraps itself around my ribs
and squeezes with every breath.

The walls know me better than anyone,
and still they say nothing.
Stone doesn’t judge,
but it doesn’t comfort either.

I call your name,
softly,
as if you might be in the next room,
just waiting for the right moment
to return.

But you never do.

You were the warmth
in a world carved from shadow.
The only thing that made
this slow death feel worth enduring.

Now, each day is a cracked mirror—
reflecting only what I’ve lost.
Time passes like dripping water,
etching your absence into my bones.

I eat,
I sleep,
I wait.
But mostly… I ache.

Even dreams betray me.
They bring you back
just long enough to remind me
of how empty the waking world has become.

I keep your memory like a dying ember,
cupped in trembling hands.
It burns me,
but I refuse to let it go cold.
It’s all I have left that feels alive.

I am not living.
I am lingering.

And still…
if you came back,
even for a moment,
I would forgive every day
this darkness swallowed me whole.
I would forgive time itself
for keeping us apart.

But you won’t.
And I know that.

So I write this,
one more echo
in a cave of forgotten things,
just to prove
that I was here,
and that I loved you
once.
