Early Access Review
It's super rare to find this level of polish in a survival game.

The amount of content and mechanics in this game is insane, but the amount of jank and bugs I encountered in the first 2 hours is also insane.

Game of the year contender, hands down.

In previous games, you'd usually have a 'best area', with the other maps being not so good.
In Resident Evil 2, the R.P.D. is the best by far, the sewer area was annoying and unmemorable and then the lab was super cool but the plant enemies were a bit lame.
In Resident Evil 4, the village area was super good and the other two areas were a bit lacking.
In Resident Evil 9, I can't really say which area's better. It feels like each area excels at its own thing. Wrenwood serves as an excellent prologue, the care center is a master class in survival horror gameplay, the way the water treatment plant plays around with darkness and that grinder section are excellent, raccoon city as a whole is a master class in map design - especially that glass floor bit in the broken building, just a huge map to kick ass in with Leon. And it all ends with the Lab, mix of both Grace and Leon gameplay against some nostalgic and some super cool new enemies.

Thought I'd give this another look since Crimson Desert is coming out soon, big mistake.
This game remains to have one of the worst new player experiences I've ever seen in a game, starting areas contain nothing but dialogue, multiple hours in and I'm still going from one location to the next mashing R to skip the mountains of dialogue NPCs are spewing.

I'd give this a 9/10 so far - it solves most of the problems the first game had and improves in almost everything.

Story:
If you liked the first game's story, you'll probably like this one as well - pacing's a bit better with this one in my opinion. Huge bummer that the God Eater link is gone but nothing can be done about that now.

World design:
I'm generally not a big fan of open worlds but I've been enjoying myself quite a bit, the map is pretty massive and exploration is rewarding, would've been a different story without the motorcycle though as sometimes the map can feel a bit too big. The first game's map design IMO was pretty terrible most of the time so it's a welcome addition.

Combat:
Massive improvement to the first game, guns no longer use ichor/mana and now have their own ammo which you can buy and stack super easily, there's a huge variety of abilities, there's the addition of new offensive formae which can range from bows to quickdraw katanas to axes that inflict status effects that make enemies freeze in time - and then there's the addition of defensive formae which will allow you to block, parry or dodge in unique ways. Jails replace the first game's armors and provide stat boosts as well as drain attacks that allow you to recover plenty of ichor/mana. I only wish there were more new weapon types - the floating blades aren't enough.

Difficulty:
Similar to the first game, the difficulty's a bit on the easier side compared to most soulslikes - Frantz is a very minor difficulty spike so you're gonna die once or twice to him and then it's smooth sailing from there - that's the vibe I'm getting at least 15 - 20hrs in.

Character creation:
The first game's character creation was phenomenal, and it only improves here. Lots of new options in every category.

Character design:
Bit different from the first game but can't say I dislike it - just may take some getting used to for some.

Boss design:
No complaints here apart from difficulty - some of the optional bosses offer almost no challenge. Main bosses are solid though.

This is one of the worst games I've ever played. Started us off in an alien biome which was terribly designed from start to finish.

Would've loved to see the mindset of these devs during the game's development.
"What would would people love to see in our soulslike shooter?"
Super annoying and boring alien and robot enemies..
Confusing layout where you step one bit out of bounds and you get poisoned..
Everywhere in the map looks the same..
Whether a boss is fun or complete ♥♥♥♥ depends on a random modifier..
Dodging lasers and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ attacks constantly on main bosses...
Super boring starting classes..
All loot is pretty much worthless.. rings and 1% stat boosts..

A game with a great foundation that's unfortunately horribly mismanaged. Each new patch is a joke that fixes one issue while introducing two more, but at least they keep adding these ♥♥♥♥♥♥ brand collaborations for a quick buck because that's definitely what players are asking for.. Teasing a new game mode while your game is starved for content and then revealing that game mode to be '3vs3 ranked' was just insulting. The game was already bleeding players left and right while the developers were still struggling to understand what it is that actually makes their game fun - now the game is essentially dead. It was a mistake to go from a masterpiece like Sifu to whatever this is.

The game looks great, has a bunch of cosmetics and mechanics but only has ONE tiny map and the community maps are "work in-progress". I completed it twice in about 15 minutes with a couple of friends and.. the guards provide no challenge, puzzles are braindead, breaking random props will give you tools that you can clear the entire map with, and I repeat - the map is TINY. The tutorial is LONGER than the actual game itself. From what I saw, different vents/doors/paths get barricaded each round so it forces you to take a different route for "replayability" but since you can pretty much escape in UNDER 2 MINS - this feature is pointless.

This is the lowest amount of content I've ever seen in a game that costs 20eur and isn't even early access. Honestly even for an early access game this would be embarrassing. My guess is that the game was designed as some slop for streamers to mess around in and make their own content as it just doesn't have any on its own. Instant refund.

P.S. I'm pretty sure the devs are botting positive reviews. Lots of positive reviews from accounts with only 1 review and the review is like a total of 3 words... take that as you will. Also should mention, the shoddy moderation team is banning all discussion of review-botting in the Steam discussions. I wonder why.
