If you like puzzles and want to improve your kana recognition (or learn kana) then Kana Quest is an enjoyable alternative to flash cards and rote learning.
The artwork is very kawaii and the soundtrack pleasant.
I don't play lots of games, so in my case there were a few things that took me a while to pick up, such as where I was up to! Also, you may need to go into settings to unlock worlds etc if you end up stuck in the first few puzzles, and indeed to do katakana if that is what you want to do.
I'm currently playing it as hiragana only, but am looking forward to improving my katakana with it at some point. Then, I hope there might be a sequel: Kanji Quest!
