Not sure whether to recommend this. There are some good things in this game. Some interesting open puzzles. Original worlds. Sense of discovery (in the beginning).
But so much time wasting. It's a puzzle game with way too much time wasting.
Spaceship / spacesuit controls are basic and too finnicky, you waste way too much time bumping into things.
The reason they recommend a gamepad is because the developer couldn't be bothered to put in some keybinds for movement on low motor thrust, yes that would have been handy with certain monsters.
Quite a few puzzles also literally rely on you doing nothing.
The constant restarts: original first time, stays fresh first 5 times, after 10 times I'm over it, after that just put me directly in orbit to the planet I want.
The story is rather basic and is mysterious to be mysterious, to hide the lack of any real substance/meaning.

This game desperately needs a paused weapon wheel. So much frustration in the game because of that. And I can't imagine it's really any better with a controller for the weapon selection. I think they are trying to introduce more slowness / difficulty that way, but it's just deeply annoying.
All the unskippable mini animations (especially work bench) are also rather annoying.
Characters and face motion acting are very well done.
Predictable ending.

Early Access Review
Quite good. Graphics are of course vary basic, but the gameplay makes up for it.

Great game, original gameplay / structure.
However if your game doesn't allow saving throughout a whole level, then it shouldn't crash. And it really shouldn't be crashing at the exact moment of exiting a level, twice...
Towards the end of the game you get tired a bit of replaying the same levels. Could have used one more level I think.
Ending is very underwhelming. Also something didn't work during the ending for me, I'm certain I clicked and it didn't register.
It would also have been better if there were more ways than one to achieve the ending.

It's a good game, but lacking in some ways.
Characters are quite flat and uninteresting (only exception maybe the janitor). Especially the main character is really unlikeable. I liked the actress' character in their previous game Quantum Break, Beth Wilder, much more.
Also the story I don't like: it feels like it's just trying to be strange to be strange, without really being coherent and having any purpose. It's a bit all over the place.
The level design is bland and gray at times.
Gameplay is ok, the telekinesis is what keeps the game from being bad in my opinion. And at times it feels even like the telekinesis lacks impact.
Graphics look quite blurry and noisy (i.e. it looks like path thraced raytracing with not enough rays leading to noise) with a GTX 1080 and difficult to get high fps. I assume you need a RTX 3000 series to get the game to run smooth and look less noisy.
In general I like Quantum Break a lot more than Control.

This is a great game.
Great story and characters, great actors. Quite complex and well thought out.
I like the combination of the game and film series in between, very original.
Gameplay is good, time warp elements keep it interesting.
Camera angle and movement are a bit clunky (noticeable in the few platform sequences in the game).
The quantum ripple element could have been better, feels like there are very few consequences to it.
Game looks great and runs well on my nivdia GTX 1080 and old Intel i5 4670K. But had to spend some time in the beginning to find settings that worked well. For anyone interested, used the following settings:
- 1920x1080 resolution
- exclusive fullscreen
- vync off
- lockto30fps off
- volumetric lighting high
- shadow resolution ultra
- shadow filtering high
- texture resolution ultra
- geometry level of detail ultra
- screen space ambient occlusion on
- screen space reflections medium
- effects quality medium
- global illumination quality high
- anti aliasing off
- upscaling off
- optionally depending on personal preference, film grain off
- optionally depending on personal preference, in nvidia control panel: image sharpening 0.40 and 0.17
- optionally depending on personal preference, in nvidia control panel: max fps 90 (it keeps the game smoother, and the game can do odd things at very high fps)
