This is great

This is the best Final Fantasy game in decades.

It's fun. The driving is fun, the challenges are fun, the story mode is way more engaging than it has any right to be, it looks nice, I find it to be just a generally enjoyable game. There's stuff that could be better, but I hardly notice because I'm busy just enjoying what is there already.

Look, I haven't bought one of these since 2020 so I'm not exactly a hardcore fan. Maybe because I only buy one every few years it's easier for me to enjoy, because enough has changed that it all looks like a major upgrade to me.

Is fun, but it's pretty hard to enjoy at the moment because it crashes every half hour or so. Wait for some patches.

As someone who came for the single player first, coop second and pvp a distant last, this is a resounding nope. Maybe I'll be back when they've done more with it, but that they put this pile out into early access makes me doubt that the team has the capability to build the sort of game that is worth playing, let alone spending money on.

Mechanics are crisp and neat if that's your thing, but not everyone wants to tunnel vision on theorycrafting the tightest build order. Starcraft and Warcraft stories were cheesy, but we loved them. This is bad fanfiction from people who wanted to make DiabloCraft, and no amount of improved facial animations is going to hide that.

Edit after Early Access finished: Still nope. This is we-have-Starcraft-at-home. All the pieces are there, but they're badly used and they don't understand what made SC1 and SC2 so compelling to play. And there's not enough that's unique to warrant wasting time playing.

They have no money left if this is what they're calling the end of Early Access, and so I doubt the servers will still be up in 12 months. Even for the bits that are not too badly done, I see no point in investing money in a game that will be dead soon, let alone time. Free is too expensive for what this game currently is.

I mean, it drives nice and looks nice I suppose. The car list seems good. The AI is an unholy abomination and is quite possibly the worst AI I've seen in years. And the career is... dull as dishwater.

Forza was always knock-off brand Gran Turismo, but it developed some of it's own character over the years that made it kind of charming. This has had all the character squeezed out of it, and it somehow feels like a less competent studio tried to do a knock-off of FM7. The kind thing to say is that it's very average, the less kind thing to say is that it's mediocre. It's we-have-Forza-at-home.

On PC there's not exactly a lot of other options for this type of game, but I'd be cautious of how much you pay for it. Definitely not full price. It's not bad (apart from the AI), it's just not good.

There are innumerable ways in which the game could be better. It's still an absolutely incredible experience that everyone should try.

Ichiban's not ma boi Kiryu, but he do all right.

If you like Trackmania you will like this. I miss the flying restarts from 2020 though.

+260hrs from Epic. It's a very solid game, even if you only play the free content. But COTD is where the cool kids is at.
