Salt 2 is pretty polished in its current state. 10 hours in and I've gotten stuck 1 time. 0 glitches. With that said, it is Early access, so there are a lot of negatives below (maybe negative is the wrong word, as it is rather my opinion on what they could work on moving toward release) that I hope are rectified, but overall a very positive first look. Hope they continue on a good path.

Positives:
+ island exploration. New dungeons everywhere, pirate outposts, graveyards, etc..
+ Game runs seemingly flawless aside from the stutter upon island generation.
+ Ship decorating (hope we see more options coming)
+ quests/job boards (reminds me of the job boards in new world) gives further meaning to your exploration.



Negatives:
- Sailing is very boring. No weather, no wild life.. basically auto pilot for what can be 15 mins at a time. you can craft to fill some time, but there needs to be more excitement around sailing. I usually stop playing once I realize I need to sail out, and just don't want to do it.
- While it is still early access, the islands do all look extremely similar.
- Combat is to easy. There is a way to evade every melee attack and defeat any foe no matter your level. on the flip side, archery does not hit enough. there's no point trying to kill a foe with a common bow unless you want to run away in the process.
- This is not really a "survival" game. wouldn't be a negative if it wasn't tagged survival. No drinking, Eating timer is so slow you don't need to pay mind to it, no temperature/climate variables, you get where I'm going. The only survival aspect is eating and you barely have to do that for a hunger purpose.
- Need more quests, more recipes, more crafting, and more variables on each island.
- I want to see my character equipped with my gear. I get its first person, but in the equipment tab, I want to see the gear on my character. seems like a small complaint, but I feel it would add a lot more immersion.

Overwhelmingly recommended for MMO fans.

#1 piece of advice. Don't not play because its "Final Fantasy" and that's not your cup o' tea.

I've played A LOT of MMO's, and this one just hits different.
There are a ton of similarities to the things we all know to be an MMO, but with the addition to several aspects that really put it over the top.

heres my perspective on the good and bad, however, the good heavily outweighs the bad!

The Good:

- Beautiful world
- Music is A+
- Great Story from AAR-EW (no other mmo compares in this category)
- Dungeons are a blast, along with trials, raids, etc..
- Community is NOT toxic. Extremely positive experience. Not a single issue in my time playing.
- Character balance
- quest line is great.. not full of pointless tasks, though they are still there.
- detail of gear. There is A LOT! of people who are very much in it to GLAM! I love that the gear has such detail and dimension.


The bad:

-Side quests.. they are pointless and mis-align scaling of leveling to MSQ.
- Jobs (professions/crafting).. I feel this is the biggest downside in my time playing. I would actually prefer the approach to this to be similar to what we all know in other MMO's.. it's very different, and doesn't seem to be worth the hassle.
- New expansion with high queue volume. Although this will eventually level out, its worth mentioning since expanding servers is basically impossible atm.
- Housing! Cool concept, but will you ever actually own one? extremely expensive and based on availability.

I must say, this is the first game in a while that I've dumped 35 hours in, in a few days. The game is enjoyable, and has good game play.

This is a positive review- but there is bad along with good:
- npc's, mobs, quests, are all basically just re-skinned in different areas. Quests.. like most mmo's kind of stink.. but I'd really like to see some more variations with the mobs. The repetition is mind numbing. collect x kill x for x drops.. and repeat repeat repeat.

- outside of that I have really enjoyed the pvp- the dungeons are fun to group up and take down, the leveling weapons is a fun spin, and overall a good base.

I do hope there is more to come. MOUNTS!! PLEASE GIVE US MOUNTS!!!

Ark is like eating a ghost pepper.

Seems fun, challenging, exciting... but then later that night, well you draw the picture.

We never seem to remember that part, and just remember the fun and exciting part, and keep coming back for more.

Overall, it is my most played game, and the survival game I will keep crawling back to even after uninstalling, reinstalling, etc..

I’ve gotta say, I was very skeptical, and my mind was set to ease after the first hour of gameplay.

A little bit slow and confusing in the first 30 minutes, but power through. Once you start getting recipes it’s game on!

The devs did an absolute wonderful job! Hardly tell it’s only in early access.

10 hours in now, and still only past the 1st boss. Plenty of content for $20.

If you like survival games, it’s a must have.

Between the art and gameplay.. this game is surely a 10! The combat and mastering each character, you can unload hours in the game in one sitting. Dev's seem to be very active and passionate about the game. Reccomended!

I wish someone would finish this game!! It has so much potential. I played on the original release, and keep checking back in hopes the devs decide to actually do something. If you intend to leave it stagnant while still charging people with flash sales, please pass it to a dev team that will actually finish it.

I absolutely loved the taming, base building, magic, etc.. Ark in a different time and world.

Now that its abandoned and doomed to remain what it is, it is still fun to open up a server with some buddies for a few days of fun.. but thats it. nothing more.

don't spend your money unless there's a hope for an update.
