What makes me unconventional as a gamer:

1- Because of the way my brain works, I have a cynical and reductionist attitude toward fantasy . Many people love fantasy that has a Medieval or Gothic theme because it's "ooky" and "spooky", which is supposed to make it "cool". My brain sees right through that, so I see it as trying to "sex up" the fantasy element, and therefore silly and a waste of time. As this point, I may challenge the reader: my "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ meter" does not have that same reaction to the Justice League, the X-Men, and the Chronicles of Narnia. Yes, I interpret them as fantasy: we don't yet have concrete evidence of telepaths or of a female-only island of immortals. (As for aliens, I'll wait to find scientific evidence from the James Web Telescope. Just as we're discovering cures for diseases, it's only a matter of time before we discover them.) Very likely, the Chronicles of Narnia doesn't trigger my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ meter because it doesn't try to "sex up" the magical element. In other words, I have to try to ignore that reaction from my brain to enjoy games like Baldur's Gate or World of Warcraft.

2- I am too lazy to enjoy competitive multiplayer in any game. Outfoxing human opponents takes too much work to bother. I play video games for my benefit, not yours. If you wish to argue with me about that, I guarantee your arrogance will make me angry enough to give you a one-way ticket to my blocked list. If you're an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, keep pressuring me into liking anything competitive.

3- Do give me some time to warm up in a public game before I join my first co-op game of the day. Otherwise, I guarantee that we'll struggle as a team for the first 5 to 10 minutes.

4- I don't give a damn what the church fathers say about porn, yet I have zero interest in porn jokes. Guys especially are into porn jokes, in this case about how "Ron Jeremy is an ugly porn star with a big ♥♥♥♥." One guy was part of a group who believed everyone should think that's funny, and they didn't respect me when I said "no" several times. Any person who respects themselves enough would have confronted him about it; his reaction was a sassy, "if you don't like the company, don't play!" That got him a one-way transfer to my Blocked list.

5- I have a distinctive writing/speaking style. I normally don't use words like "bro", and I tend to be rather long-winded. Some guys might find that second part annoying, but it's also a diagnostic to see if it's really me.

6- In some games, like Left 4 Dead 2, I need time to warm up. If you don't let me do that, my team will struggle for the first 5 to 10 minutes.

7- I was hacked in 2020. For that reason, I choose to limit my friend list.

8- I view it as almost irresponsible for people not to block someone they don't get along with. I say that because I have had to do so myself.

That's a fine idea. I should probably finish the sale games I bought the last 2 years, lol! I guess Fallout 3 had a special place for me since I played its predecessor. I also agree about L4D 2, I really only like the campaigns myself because it is a great way to meet good people to play with. I think I made expert once with a team of good friends...such a long time ago.

@RadDog I don't know why, but Fallout 3 just didn't do it for me (though to be fair, I couldn't stand Mass Effect 1 or BioShock 2 and Infinite, and I've avoided ME 3 for several reasons). I am hoping GTA V is just as good as IV (I couldn't stand GTA's graphics until IV, which is not its fault). I enjoy getting achievements, but since I can barely stand Expert (with or without Realism) and Versus outside Coop Versus in Left 4 Dead 2, I doubt I'll probably ever get all their achievements. In my limited experience with DG2, it feels like a very (but not totally) different game from its predecessor, with the multiple AI's creating a unique/different atmosphere and the Boost towers changing game dynamics. ATM, I find myself happily absorbed in Euro Truck Simulator 2, which is almost the polar opposite to L4D2. If you are unsure about these games, do what I do: Wait until they go on discount at least 60%, then buy them. You can't lose.
