As someone who has been playing since 2013 and loves this game to death, I cannot recommend this game to literally anyone. Sure, Steam says I've played 1600-some odd hours. It's actually more, both since there was a reset at the beginning (lost about 400 on record) and since I have spent so much time in the wiki it might as well have been in-game. I see new content come out that mostly is okay, but has some serious flaws and I think, "hey, I'll wait this out, I've done it a dozen times before." But when I think about what my friends would feel as brand new players to this game, it hits me that I'd be explaining so much stuff to them, they'd hardly be playing a game so much as going to lectures all over again.

I love this game. I truly do. But my lord, if it just isn't friendly to new people wanting to casually play. There's a hundred different resources you need to build anything, many of which are either locked behind regions you need certain progression to reach or are so RNG you hardly feel like you're earning anything. There are 4+ systems of leveling you keep track of (weapons / frames / etc, mastery, focus, syndicates, and more) and for all of them, the lower your mastery rank is, the less you can earn each day. You literally have an inverse efficiency curve to basic leveling systems. As someone who wanted to earn everything themselves and not be given items or be carried by other players, it is exceedingly difficult to play this game, at least in a reasonably timely manner. My friends wouldn't want to be carried either, and would probably quit a few weeks in.

I want this game to be amazing, and in many ways it is. But at this point in time, with so many loose ends, broken systems, and frustrating mechanics, I'm hard-pressed to recommend it to anyone who hasn't already put a significant amount of time into the game. I STILL look at the wiki for information sometimes because of how convoluted some of this stuff can be, and I'd say I have a decent understanding of the game. I know the potential for greatness is there; I've seen it when certain content has dropped, or when players really worked together, like the old Law of Retribution raid back in the day. I hope these issues can be fixed, because I really want this game to be what it can be.

Have you ever wanted to lose 1000 hrs of your life? Here's a great way to do it.

Can't say enough about how much fun this game is, and even after doing literally everything in the game released by Bethesda, the modding community has added thousands of hours of more fun to be had. The number of hours on record I have is inaccurate, as it fails to account for the time played on consoles, and when I had the game before moving it to steam.

If you haven't bought this yet, do it now.
