Video Game 2: The Sequel

naked and afraid with guns and weed

quite fun, very good soundtrack. unfortunately if you're the type that came from BIT.TRIP RUNNER or Runner2, don't expect very much content-wise. i could be wrong here, as i've amassed much more experience with these games over the years, but a normal run (i.e., just completing the normal levels) of this game is a LOT shorter than the previous installments. the Retro Stages (no, not Retro Challenges; those are different) stink and nearly appear to be a last-minute addition (sprites are low quality, movement mechanics feel very janky). thankfully, if you're a fan of the series, i would recommend this just for the sake of owning it at the very least.

overall, it's alright. what it lacks in length it makes up for in difficulty.

7/10? yeah, that's about right.

It goes without saying that this is basically a flawless port of HL2 to VR. As of writing, it's in public beta, so there are a few little oddities here and there (would really like to see the 9mm be usable with two hands, similar to that of HL:A)*. But there's nothing game breaking that I've encountered thus far. On top of it all, this is one of the few VR titles I've played that runs flawlessly (i.e., at a solid framerate) on my rig.

TL;DR: Insanely well done. Calling this a "mod" almost feels like a disservice; this is legit.
Mad respect to the HL2:VR team.

*EDIT: they have added secondary grip to weapons

VR has done what no flatscreen could ever do: make me quit skipping leg day. More importantly, my left arm is ALSO getting a workout for once. I can say with complete and utter confidence that this is hands-down the best game I've played in my entire life.

Most people would agree with the notion that video games are supposed to be an escape from reality rather than an emulation of it.

In other words, would not recommend this game for those of you living in Chicago.
