Once again, as their name implies, the Game Bakers cooked with this one, using their battle-tested philosophy on focusing on one central gameplay idea and building the entire game to enhance it.

The climbing gameplay is masterfully realized, and can easily push you into a flow state. You start feeling the strain of Aava alongside her, thanks to the visual cues, the sound design and the controller feedback. As you progress, you start to build some sort of muscle memory, and you begin to take risks you would never have 2 hours before. The feeling of achievement after completing a hard (or seemingly impossible) wall is incredible.
The gameplay is deep, and it invites you to explore further and further, boosting replayability. The game is not easy, but it pushes you to improve without feeling too punishing in my opinion. It gives you a variety of tools you should learn to use, which can help you tremendously in harder parts of a wall.

While compared to the other Game Bakers games, the soundtrack mostly plays in the background, with a few set piece musics. But the quality is still there, and it is always a pleasure to listen to.

At the time of writing, early after launch, there are still a few physics bugs which can be frustrating, and sometimes lead to death, though a caveat to this would be that I tended to push the physics of the game close to their limit. Hopefully this can be fixed over time, and I don't believe that it is a dealbreaker. In fact it's in better shape than most recent games.

The game seems to have been left in a broken state. Even with no input on my part, the game seems to register a move input akin to to joystick drift, but I'm on a mouse and keyboard... This makes even the tutorial unplayable.

From the liittle I was able to play I was not impressed. You feel like you're trying to battle the controls more than anything, which makes it all the more frustrating.

Cannot recommend.

To me this a once in a lifetime game, a bit like Undertale. There will be a "before" and an "after".
If I had to describe this game, I would say that it is some sort of Undertale gone Evangelion, cranked up to 1000. And yet I feel that this description is a disservice to the game. It is its own thing and definitively a game you should play and experience yourself.

My only gripe is that I'm not that much of a fan of the RPG spects of the game in the sense that I feel like they slow down the game. I still enjoy the combat, though. And yet at the same time, I feel thankful for it since it's allowed me to spend more time bonding with my fellow friends.

Be warned though, the psychological is real and it is emotionnaly eviserating. I only know two games that made me cry for real, so GG.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need intensive cat petting not to go and die in a room corner.

If you came here because of Furi, be warned : this is not Furi.

This is a game centered around the relationship between its two protagonists, Yu and Kay, a runaway couple who landed on a faraway uninhabited planet.
The gameplay is made of phases of explorations with some combat every now and then. The traversal gameplay has been one of the main focus for this game, and the controls are quite pleasing.
Combat can be a bit confusing at first, but you get the hang of it after a few battles. It uses a sort of ATB battle system which keeps it dynamic. My only issue is that the mob patterns are quite easy to discover, and to recycle the gameplay loop at the end of the game, the game has to throw entire packs of heavy-hitting mobs at you. Long story short, the combat is nice and can be enjoyable, but that's about it.

But the main crust of the game is the story of Yu and Kay. While the overarching story itself isn't that innovative, following it along our characters is a delight. The dialog writing feels really strong. You can really feel their complicity and get to connect with them.
The game also doesn't shy away from the fact that, since they are a young, runaway couple, they f*ck, quite a lot. While there are no really explicit scenes (there are a handful of nude scenes, but no sex scenes), the topic of sex is comes up pretty often. Thankfully, they are treated with maturity. They don't feel like some cheap fan-service moments but genuine moments of intimacy between the characters.

Overall I would recommand this game if you're looking for a nice and easy moment of comfort behind your controller.

This is a great hacking game, with some of the most compelling gameplay I have seen in a while.

The only inconvenient with it is that once you've finished it, you'll regret not having a machine to make you forget it to enjoy it all over again

This is one of the most solid expansions I've seen in gaming. The story goes crescendo all the way through with a magnificient conclusion. Honestly, I was blown away by the last act, and I have not seen that many games achieve something quite like it (and remember that this is an expansion not a full game).

Its not perfect however. I still have a hard time with the feeling of filler during the main story quest, and while it has decreased quite a bit along the expansions, there are still occasions where I feel like having to do fetch quests that stop the progression.
I would clearly recommand any FFXIV player to buy this expansion and play it, but I still have a hard time recommending it to a new player, because I feel that A Realm Reborn is an awfull mess of an introduction (it gets better during the ARR -> HW transition, but it is like 30~50h of gameplay in).
I was also disapointed by the huge spoiler in the story trailer released during E3 2019, as it completely ruined one of the biggest plot twists of this expansion.

But I don't have much to complain about left on this expac. The score is amazing and on point, and the art direction is great.
