Based on the old Counter-Strike 1.6 and Source, the Counter-Strike Global Offensive could be consider the best and most played fps/competitive game at the momment.

The graphics are a way better than the 1.6 and a step over Source (who uses the same engine), bringing with it a new gamestyle.

Most notable differences between 1.6/Source and Global Offensive gamestyle:
- Harder Recoil on the weapons;
- Harder to wallbang through the walls;
- Pixels (helping to make the picks);
- Added to the game the "Molotov";
- Pistols and SMG's are more powerfull;

The changes weren't made only on the gamplay, Valve brought a lot of news making the game easier. Nowadays to play competitive you don't need to find an "mix/cpl" server with an admin online, the game offers you a "competitive launch" as a "casual launch" giving you the opportunity to play what you want.

In competitive mode you can play with 4 random players on your team or you can create a lobby with your friends to play it. There's also a "rank" system, to keep the players at the same level making the games harder. With consecutives wins you'll be raking up, or with consecutives losses you'll be raking down.

The casual mode is the popular "4Fun". In casual servers there's a limit of 10 players per team. Helmet/Kevlar and defuse are not purchasable, every round you'll start with it and the "All-talk" is on.

Competitives servers and casual servers are supported by valve. But there're a lot of "Community Servers" where you can find different kinds of mods, competitives (mix/cpl), non-official maps.

Valve is frequently updating the game bringing news as new skins, nerfs, etc... Bans are now more common, because Valve implanted a "Overwatch System" where normal players who have more than 150 victories on competitive matches could watch a game from a player who got many reports. If the player is marked as a cheater for the players who did the Overwatch he'll be banned.

Final conclusion: The game is great and be sure that it'll worth your money. But, if you're a old player you'll miss the maps: de_nuke, cpl_mill and de_tuscan from competitive mappool. Also you'll probably don't like the new de_train.
