The game itself is really fun as long as you are able to play it and you don't try to play on official servers (horrible performance and no free space to build as a beginner).
The Linux support is horrible, though. There are graphical bugs and keyboard layouts other than US (for example german) can not be used and even for US layout whistle groups on the num block do not work.

Worst of all (also applies to the mac version) every time a new major version of the game is released (every few weeks, preferably on weekends or directly before holidays), the Linux version is lagging behind by at least a day. All the official servers and many unofficial servers are updated almost immediately and therefore can't be connected to. In the rare cases where the Linux version is released in a timely manner it usually contains a game-breaking bug which takes multiple more days to fix.
So at random times (the current streak is lasting three days already, on average about 25% of time) it is just impossible to play online. It is almost impossible to reliably breed dinos if you can not rely on being able to join the server again the next time you have to feed or care for your babies.

Feel free to buy if you want to play single player only (and have the hard disc space and internet connection for the 100GiB storage size and frequent 10GiB+ updates), but if you want to play online, save yourself the money, time and frustration!
