I went to the XBOne midnight release for this back in 2014, and if you tried playing it back then you would know how absolutely abysmal the initial release was. Matchmaking barely worked, parties constantly disconnected, load times felt endless, and trying to get into a stable multiplayer game with friends was more frustrating than fun. For a collection celebrating one of gaming’s most iconic franchises, it honestly felt like a massive letdown at launch.

That said, credit where credit is due, though. the game today is almost unrecognizable compared to what we got in 2014.

It’s rare to see a game recover from such a rough launch this completely. What started as one of the most disappointing releases I’ve experienced has become one of the best ways to experience Halo, whether you’re reliving the campaigns for nostalgia or jumping into competitive multiplayer. It took years to get here, but today, The Master Chief Collection feels like the celebration it was always meant to be and that's not without thanks to the incredible modding community that keeps this game alive.

Yeh I'm dragging my feet with this game because I suck but this game / series is awesome. Story is nothing to write home about, serviceable all that blah blah but the enemies are so cool. Truly some ♥♥♥♥ that comes straight from a nightmare that you wake up in a cold sweat from. I'm pretty excited to dust off this series.

I do really like this game, and I'd recommend it to others on a sale. I tried my best to get everything I could out of this game and although I left feeling satiated, with the incredible voice acting and creepy atmosphere throughout my playthrough to boot, I still can't but help feeling like there could have been... more done to this game?

Games like this truly deserve multiple endings.
