This a really fresh take on multiplayer horror - it's a combination of some of the funniest gameplay I've ever had and absolute TERROR. The game design encourages you to get split up and it makes it a lot scarier when you're alone. The monsters and planets have really great depth and complement each other well. They are well designed and have unique traits that really make them feel alive and like actual threats.

I think there is a bit of work to be done with the core gameplay loop, as the quotas are repetitive and there is no long term progression, as you can't keep anything for more than 5 or so quotas. However, it doesn't matter that much because this game is more focused on your interactions with friends, the monsters, and horror. It focuses on the right things for its initial release. I am so excited to see where this game goes.

This is possibly the BEST 4 player party game ever created. It has me laughing for HOURS and setting it down is extremely difficult. BUY. It is so worth it in every way. The fact that this game isn't more popular is a crime. It's insanely fun and easy to learn. Playing with friends is the most fun you will have playing a game together in your life.

It has a very steep learning curve but once you throw around 15 hours in and can actually do combat, or lower the difficulty to the point you can have fun, it's super enjoyable and the active development makes it really exciting.

Probably one of the most difficult survival games I've ever played but really fun once you get the hang of it.

Really well done, far less clunky than its predecessor and an enticing story. The twists are great, and the characters are fun. If you liked Overture but thought it was missing more a unique gameplay loop, better monsters, and less combat, you are in for a treat.

It also has genuinely difficult puzzles and connects back to so much stuff from Overture, it's insane. The small details are huge!!!

Especially this one I noticed:
In the last game, there's a news report about "increased boats travelling by night" in Overture. In this game there's a file talking about how the facility's security is going down now that it is self-sufficient, and they no longer need "increased sea traffic to facilitate construction".

I thought that little detail was super interesting and made me think about other potential connections with notes in Overture.

Pretty cool game, well appreciated if you view it as a precursor to Amnesia. The enemy AI is predictable but the game has its moments, especially during scripted chases and spider sections. I also found specific facts about the story horrifying in a psychological way. Especially (end of game spoiler) Having to incinerate Red and then learn that he was ONLY 14 when he arrived at the mines

I also found the story fascinating and enjoyed reading through the documents. They all felt vaguely relevant to what I was encountering, so it was nice to read through - although getting a bigger picture is hard. The game also sets up the second one quite well (although I have yet to play it).

I've done some analysis of the game's code and network traffic behaviour, as well as GPU usage. As far as I can tell, this game isn't a miner. In order to mine cryptocurrencies you need to use network traffic. I put Wireshark on the game and nothing was really going on in UDP (used by ethereum discovery protocol) that wasn't server network traffic. I also checked the source code for ethereum/bitcoin addresses, "miner", "gpu", etc. No hits. The class names didn't have anything suspicious. I looked for requests to their website, nothing suspicious. As far as I can tell, this is just a really badly (graphics wise) optimized game.

Dev, fix your ♥♥♥♥.

--Technical Details--

You can view the source yourself by going to game files, /SCP_ET_Data/Managed/Assembly-CSharp.dll. I used JetBrains dotPeek to view the decompiled source but any C# decompiler will do. Usually if someone puts a crypto miner in software they will use a library to do it (since writing crypto code is difficult), there are no such libraries included. Most common coin wallet addresses will have similar start characters. BTC start with 1, 3, or bc1. ETH start with 0x. There weren't any strings in the code with those starters that were addresses for such coins.

As for Wireshark, install it, start listening on your network adapter. Filter to UDP. As other reviews have stated, the lag doesn't start until you join a server. Upon joining a server, the network goes crazy (sending movement updates, etc. Normal server comms). However, crypto network traffic is very distinguishable and has its own protocol. Nothing of the sort happens. Also, the game, network wise, only communicates with the host server. The only traffic that goes directly to the game / developer's servers is clearly visible HTTP traffic requesting things like the main menu news articles. Otherwise, everything was sent to the host server, which wouldn't really work if the goal was for the developer to get crypto.

Was a little wary because of complaints of bugginess, but this is genuinely the most fun I've had playing any game in a while. I only own Reach, and it's actually my favorite game right now. Bugs are pretty minimal, game is great. Online is fun and not P2W. Very well done.

Pretty far into the game, not nearly as terrifying as The Dark Descent or SOMA. Pretty low on my list of horror games, which is a disappointment coming from Frictional. The game certainly has its moments but it lacks the pure horror I felt playing Dark Descent for the first time. Maybe it's me, maybe it's not, but it seems others agree. I love Frictional, and I still look forward to seeing what they make in the future. This game wasn't the best, but it wasn't bad either. It's just okay.

A was first shown this game by a friend, watching a ton players jump out for Distant Worlds. I think it sums up how awesome this game is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8R4JbYmKb4U
This game is everything I ever wanted but never knew I wanted. It has its ups and downs, but it was well worth my $30, more than many other games of the same price. Horizons is also very worth it.
It's just great.
