I really, really did not think I would love this game as much as I do. I'm new to the metroidvania genre so at first I found the combat annoying and difficult, exploration tedious - but the game is just really, really engaging. Exploring new areas and finding secrets is genuinely a blast, the boss fights are the right amount of challenging, and really I think it's quite well done. There's a few minor nitpicks I could make, like I don't like the Guilt mechanic at all, and I also think the menus in this game are pretty weak, there's not a lot of settings (mainly Borderless Windowed) and the item descriptions, for some reason, scroll with H and Y (not documented anywhere in the game). But god, this game is really fun. It just is. I wish I understood the story though because I really, truly do not.
