Without going into an endless gushing session: This is one of the best metroidvanias/soulslikes I've touched lately, and I've had a run through of several. Buy it now. Read on if you want a fuller opinion.

It all depends on what your preference is, of course, but if you like dark, atmospheric and mysterious worlds to explore, visually satisfying combat and competent gameplay that ticks all those lovely boxes you expect from a metroid-like game, then this is for you.

I'll add that the audiovisual parts of this game is nigh-on perfect, the only exception being that I think a couple of the voice actors miss the mark a bit on what I expected some characters to sound like. It's far from a problem, and mostly subjective though. This is a handcrafted gem, made with such incredible detail and will surely stand the test of time even better than many of your beloved SNES or other sprite-based classics. It is truly remarkable the amount of work that has gone into the graphical art in itself.

Gameplay is solid, and the only complaint I have would be that certain sections feel a bit slipper, while others feel stiff. Grabbing ledges is a bit wonky, and overall the game feels just a tad too moody about whether it knocks you around or let's it slide when you get punched.

I also feel like death-spikes (you know what I mean, play any NES Megaman and you know full well what I mean) really isn't a fun challenge. That is subjective though.

These are small gripes however, and overall the gameplay is nothing short of superb, progression systems feel just right and most, if not all, upgrades feel valuable and useful. Bosses are satisfying, and it's hard to put down once you get started in general.

I also like the length. I don't mind the longer Dark Souls games at all, but sometimes I'd like the same deal, but in a bit shorter format. I feel 12-18 hours is a perfect length for most any given game most of the time.

Absolute recommend. Buy this. Do it now.

Started playing this for a YouTube series, and ended up really liking it.

The shortest summary of this game for me would be: Resident Evil (original trio) style mansion-exploration, with the same-ish setting and mood, in an overhead view with turnbased combat.

It really shows that this was a labour of love, and while short and slightly janky at times, I would absolutely recommend it, with a small caveat:

I encountered a consistent crash after fighting my first boss (it's a fairly open trip, might not even be the first boss for all I know) which resulted in me losing the drive to continue, mostly because it occured specifically when trying to talk to one of the few NPCs in the game you meet right before it. I'm not sure if the game would allow my continuation apart from that particular scene, but being the curious guy I am I just couldn't stand leaving that room alone so I ended up hesitating too much to continue.

Bug report submitted, dev has acknowledged it, and it might have just been me experiencing this bug (nobody else seems to have mentioned it, but that might be because it's not a well known game).

Only con I can think of is the slow movement, with camera stuck on your character, which leads to some jittery screen movement. It's a tad annoying, especially if you die and have to re-do some things. Not enought to not recommend though.

So hey, finally a chance to share my thoughts on this game so far: It's good. Buy it.

I'll update this review when I'm done (and have played it once more on the PC), but for now, you can see for yourself what it's like:
