The game is still early on but there are massive issues with playing it in the current state. Some matches you get new players just like you, in other matches you have players who have unlocked advanced items that are much harder to play against. You also need a really good headset and excellent hearing. This game doesn't have any mechanics to help the losing side catch-up at all. There is much potential here and if you get in a few matches you will have some good ones. The learning curve is steep but once you get your first five matches out of the way you will start to understand the game well enough to develop a strategy.

This game has truly enjoyable play. The concept is fun, not fancy. There are some chronic issues where people can hack, people quit lobbies - but these aren't unique to this game. The biggest positive for the game is how many people are playing it: you can always find match.

The game is a bit stingy on free to play, but there is some fun to it. It has a terrible name that makes it functionally impossible to search the internet for it.

The game is more about packrats amasing vast fortunes of stuff and then building bases to deal with very aggressive zombies. The quests unfortunately don't drive any story or immerse in the environment, they just have you killing something most the time. There are fetch quests but you have to kill zombies to get the thing to fetch and like the kill quests you still have to return to the same place to finish the quest - making all quests essentially fetch quests. The vehicles are fun to use and the environments offer variability. There is plenty of room for this game to grow into a more complex late game. It captures the fun of a sandbox with a nice need to cooperate with other players.

Don't buy this game, don't even play it if you can get it for free.

The 6.1 patch update has unbalanced the game to the point of being borderline unplayable if you are in a survive with friends (everyone having headsets and talking throughout the match) and unplayable if you want to play alone with 3 other randomly assigned survivors.

The best part of playing survivor is that the que time is instant. You can barely hit the ready button before you are in a lobby. Most survivors like playing and having a chance to survive, they don't need to always survive. The problem is when you feel hopeless you stop having fun and just want to get out of the game as soon as possible in hopes your next game won't be hopeless. The problem is too many games in a row are hopeless. They shouldn't even call them survivors anymore, it should be victims vs. killers. It is even worse when you sit through three or four back to back total kills of all the victims. Keep count of how many games go by where less than 2 victims survive the match - also don't count games where the killer just lets the last two escape. You will notice the new balance is about 3.6 kills on average, where the number in my opinion should hover around 2. I think victims don't see themselves as survivors if the average kills exceed 2.1. During this patch they should disable the DC penalty timer and watch the DC rate compared to previous periods where they had no DC penalty.

As a killer this game is great. The only problem is the very long que times to get into a match. Once you make it through the long wait (watch Twitch or Youtube for those 10-30 minutes), you get to murder four people however you want. You can make a bunch of mistakes, and even if your victim is clever and makes very few or no mistakes you will still catch up to them and slaughter them. You are like a digital cat toying with mice. You can choose to let some escape and you can choose to torture others and kill them. Any mice/survivors you let escape have to live with the knowledge that it was you and only you that permitted this to happen. If you want a challenge then move on this is not the game for you. But if you want to bully people online in a game that allows this by design - get revenge for all the slights real or perceived to be doled out on unsuspecting proxies

Here is my old review:
The game has an aspect of anxiety if not horror. The horror is close enough and the theme fits. The drawbacks are certain killers negate some mechanics and don't really innovate game play but rather exacerbate other mechanics instead (same ingredients, different ratios vs. new ingredients). The survivors have a repetitive experience as they always win in the same way so unless you enjoy area control and evasion you aren't going to get any other experiential options on here.
