All the best aspects of Harvest Moon with the added bonus of no partner gender restrictions (which is v important to me), and I could own a cat (which is even more important to me). Highly recommended, love this game.

I bought this game out of sheer, burning curiosity thinking it was going to be a light-hearted, silly game about dating birds. I was in a state of turmoil - what had come over me? Was this some kind of mid-mid-life crisis? How far was I going to sink into depravity before finally snapping out of it and coming to my senses? I was embarrassed and didn't want to admit to even my closest friends that I was won over by this charming game.

But then I couldn't stop telling them about it. I wanted to tell the whole world what a twisted surprise Hatoful Boyfriend turned out to be. Yes, of course it's ridiculous, of course you can't take it TOO seriously, but it is also so much deeper than just a "bird dating sim." It commanded all my attention and free time over the course of four days until I was finally able to finish it. I obviously can't say too much without spoiling it (as anyone who's played knows) but if you're going to set aside reservations for only one game in your life, make it this one.
