The series takes a bold turn and calls upon Ryota Susuki (one of the lead combat designers of DMC5 and other Capcom games) to help create a true action game with RPG elements while packing the gameplay systems and mechanical depth of a hack and slash, when all the tools are at your disposal this is one of those games where it can be as fast paced and elaborate as the synapses in your brain can light up, you're only limited by "open world RPG mob fodder" enemy design and a few unavoidable pesky ability cooldowns, some more than others depending on your loadout.

While some might deem it not suitable for the "Final Fantasy" name due to these changes to the formula, I disagree, key moments between characters have that unmistakable magic so specific to this series that convinces me that even though they keep reinventing the gameplay and creating new worlds and stories, they haven't forgotten the soul and what makes FF games special.

Also if you value epic visual spectacle boss fights and insane action setpieces of planetary bombastic scale, you have no choice but to play this game for the Eikon fights alone (including the final bosses of both DLCs), some can get close to 1h in lenght and they keep getting more and more over the top with cutscenes and transformations and scenario changes mid fights the choreography + OST are simply elite.
Bahamut is in my top 3 boss fights of all time due to the "wow factor" alone and a special goosebump inducing moment during it.

Did all side quests which are mostly lame with a few charming ones and game has some filler to keep you busy in exchange for unique weapons and items, but if you have a low tolerance for it just blitz through the main missions and have a great time with the story and setpieces.

Makes a great game even better, wish it had even more story missions and a more fleshed out Ryu weapon with it's own Gleam Mode attacks but the extra Bloody Palace mode and trials are fun, and Yakumo's scythe is OP but fun so who cares.

Final boss is a 10 foot tall ojousama laughing demon with large breasts and muscular legs who calls in a tactical nuke, sensational.

Having finished it for the first time, words escape me on how peak this is, you can just feel the love and respect the developers have for this game throughout the entire playthrough in every aspect of it, they had a lot of fun with it.

A confident and bold action hack and slash game with arguably the best combat system and boss fights in it's niche, but most importantly with a lot of soul, it stands tall beside DMC5 and Bayonetta as the kings of the genre, but manages to scratch a unique itch that those games cannot, an insane and bloody rollercoaster journey that proves platinum games still have what it takes and are better than ever at what they do best.

A must play for any action game fan and for those who miss when games used to have an unapologetic edge to them, also nice OST.

After finally playing this for myself, it's easy to tell why so many despise this game, understanding the foundation of trauma is vital to empathize with its characters and the choices they make, even when those choices harm their loved ones and seem nonsensical to people without any further knowledge of PTSD.
Not to mention coming to terms with the fact that the hero of the first game is little more than a vile killer in the eyes of his victims, but when they have something to say or want revenge, the fans obviously don't want to see it play out or accept it being portrayed as justified.

However it may sound like this isn't a "I'm afraid you have to be 400iq to understand tlou2 hihi" review, but it legit feels like we all lied to ourselves and jumped on the hate bandwagon, pretending this game's story is bad because "they didn't give me what I wanted, I will let myself get killed by Ellie in the Abby vs Ellie theater fight and that's my canon ending haha things have to end well and happily and just like how I want them to go only then the piece of media is good and high quality".

It's a victim of the fanbase it cultivated with the first game, this one is constant spiraling violence and depression with a few oaeses of emotional human warmth in between, while in the first one you were pretty much always in the right in the audience's eyes.

This game is unexpected and provoking, while coincidentally also being an insanely high budget visual, technical and gameplay marvel with performances that put most movies nowadays to shame.
I'm glad this game didn't give the fans what they wanted. I'm glad they didn't make Joel the sigma chad who kills everyone and dies heroically saving the day once again one last time. Being trapped into conforming and delivering what is expected of you is not what I admire from creators, and they have my praise for it.

This review is for Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge

The game takes a more cinematic and setpiece-heavy approach to it's story and levels compared to past games but the combat is the best in the series, all the moves are more brutal than ever and there's even more of them involving teleports and throws, the "steel on bone" counter mechanic to heavy attacks is super satisfying and the effects on screen reflect the true bloodlust and carnage going on all you see is red a mist of blood with body parts flying around as you shred through enemies like a tornado, despite the enemies having the tendency to block the f out of your attacks compared to previous games it's very satisfying (specially Ayane she's the fastest character in the game and mangles enemies like nothing else she is even better than Ryu imo her moves are crazy).

Once you beat the game (I beat it on Hard which was super challenging) you unlock even harder difficulties (bruh) and a chapter select mode where you can play through the entire game as Ryu, Ayane, Momiji or Kasumi which all play differently and have their own weapon with a distinct and extensive list of combos and ranged weapon as well.

It's not a perfect game a lot of the bosses have plenty of room for improvement and some common enemies like the gorilla looking brutes, the snake arms monsters and the alchemists I just SOB, UT or izuna drop them to death usually because they are not well designed or behave in a way that incentivises skillful play imo but overall it's fun and addicting with ridiculous over the top setpieces back to back once I picked it up it's near impossible to put down.

TL;DR: A crazy blood-filled power trip earned through skill and endurance with a refined yet absolutely brutal combat system, some questionable boss encounters and enemies, a product of it's time in the best and worst ways.

Having played both Sigma 2 on steam and the original Xbox360 NG2 on Xenia I can confirm this is the definitive version if you're looking to play NG2 from now on.

It's basically a remake in UE5 of the prefered original Xbox360 version of the game and it's addicting as hell, with it's increased enemy count, stylish art direction and brings back the gore in all it's glory with blood spraying out of enemies like pressure hoses from where their limbs should be painting the scenery and drenching your character in a bloody red while they unrelentingly drag themselves across the floor with no legs or stumble to you with missing arms to make one last attempt at your life by blowing themselves up after grabbing you or damaging you from afar with guns and shurikens, it also includes all the new additions and 3 new playable characters and levels that the Sigma 2 version had but the original NG2 didn't, I guess you could call it the best of both worlds and a very smart remake from Team Ninja to remedy the fact that they lost the original NG2 source code.

TLDR; It's a remake of Ninja Gaiden 2 Xbox360 version on PC with extras from sigma 2 and other improvements, it's awesome.

Edit: Just beat this version of the game and currently replaying on harder difficulties, can confirm it continues to be one of the greatest action games of all time.

The best game there is at making you feel like a scary psycho super soldier, here are some of the things you can do:
- You have bullet time that refills with each kill.
- Superhuman speed that lets you sprint, slide into a group of soldiers and send them flying over your head (and even kill them all before they hit the ground and are desperately helpless flailing in the air using bullet time) and jump/mantle faster than your enemies.
- You can dual wield shotguns and grenade launchers and almost every other weapon in the game (after a certain point in the story).
- Strong enough to dropkick peoples heads off to launch yourself up into the air (to mayhaps trigger bullet time and shred through everyone else in the room before hitting the ground).
- Grab enemies as hostage and throw them across the room or against their comrades with enough strength to make them knock each other down like bowling pins (you're free to pull the pin of the grenade they have on their vest before doing so).
- Brief Crysis-style cloak feature that lets you relocate mid firefights and catch your enemies by surprise.
- Nail people to the wall with explosive bolts as they scream in agony for a brief moment before being plastered all over the walls and ceeling by the explosion.
- Mince and mangle through both the environment and your enemies bodies with a robust gore system and particle simulations that absolutely clutter the screen and light it up the room like fireworks, enemies are left filled with holes or dismembered screaming on the ground squirming and kicking clutching at their missing limbs (sometimes they just get pulverized and their organs spill out everywhere so there's that I guess) as their remaining comrades try to flank you and flush you out with grenades, it's pure chaos.
- Wield a mean looking katana that dismembers enemies with ease and has a dash attack that lets you close in the gap with anyone and perform air assassinations (comes with the bladekisser DLC).

Combat is extremely fast paced and brutal, weapons sound mean as hell and the visual feedback is vicious, main missions are all varied locations across the world from castles, to offshore facilities reminiscent of Metal Gear Solid 2's "Big Shell", to well lit and slick office interiors with and art style that remind me of Mirror's Edge with it's clean extremely readable aesthetic and are incredibly designed overall they never overstay their welcome and changes up pace quite a lot. There are very horror focused segments and boss fights and setpieces which were cool but never reached the heights of the combat against armed opponents.

If there is EVER a new FEAR or Crysis game, they have a lot to live up to because this game plays better than all of them, personally a new standard in FPS shooters gameplay-wise, addicting as hell.
