I fully intend to update this review after the game receives another major update or exits Early Access. However, at this time, I cannot recommend this game to new players. If you're a fan of Path of Exile 1 or simply want to support GGG, I strongly suggest purchasing the game. But for those coming from Diablo or other ARPGs, I would recommend waiting until the full release.

I’m a huge fan of PoE 1 and am generally enjoying the late-game loop in PoE 2. However, once you reach the mapping phase, you'll quickly find that your character's survivability is severely tested—even if you're capable of quickly bursting down a pack of mobs. Between server and local performance issues, avoiding death from long-range mobs or on-death effects will definitely challenge your patience. I believe much of this could be alleviated if GGG added an option to reduce or remove friendly skill effects or, at the very least, outlined hostile effects more clearly.

Another common cause of easily avoidable deaths is playing on gateways located across the globe. The public party finder has no way of filtering groups hosted in different regions. If you're not paying attention, this can lead to serious connectivity issues.

Ultimately, my complaints are relatively simple to fix, but the quality of life in gameplay is definitely hurt by the lack of these features.

Risk of Rain, but in 3D?!

Nexon did a great job of translating the gameplay from the original game when going from 2D to 3D. Thankfully they backed away from being blatantly pay-to-win as well. Still far from a perfect game, it's still very entertaining.

Great gameplay, decent storyline. Definitely my least liked of the series, but still a highly enjoyable game.

Very fun, and apparently a great way to learn to play guitar. Only have ~10 hours in it and I've improved drastically at the bass.

I've never enjoyed dying as much as I did in this.
