Rarely have I been immersed into game the way that Skyrim has immersed me. I may enjoy Morrowind more on a technical level, but Skyrim's world design is some of the best in the business. It is the perfect game to turn off your brain and just explore. It still boggles my mind this ever ran on 7th gen consoles.

Even without the Unity port, this is one of my favorite RPGs. The character creator remains one of my favorite of any game I've played, even with the jank. It is a true open world akin to dwarf fortress, and it encourages a degree of imagination that few games have elicited from me.

If you are new though, don't play this version. Daggerfall Unity has everything this version has with less jank and way more user friendly. Play that one.

A certified classic. I replay this game about once every year, and every time I am impressed with how seamless the escalation is. This game deserves every award it's been given, and if you can get past the inherent jank of 90s FPS titles, this stands as one of the greatest.

Absolutely fantastic, open-ended levels that you can spend forever exploring. So many weapons and powers at your disposal means every enemy interaction can be as unique and dynamic as you can be creative. The game is very accommodating to multiple play styles and forgiving to beginners. It is also relatively short (about 12-15 hours if you're focusing on main objectives), so replaying the game to find alternate routes is way more manageable.

✓ Solid world design and is a lot of fun to explore.
✓ Settlement builder was fun to use
✓ Crafting system integrated well
✓ Gunplay is engaging if simple

X Generally bad character and faction writing
X Does not feel like a Fallout game
X Really bad performance

Definitely not for fans of the older games or those who want a deep narrative, but the exploration/upgrade game-play loop is a lot of fun (I would describe it as Borderlands-adjacent). I would've recommended this game back in the day, but there are other open world games that are worth spending time in over this one in my opinion.
