The game is great, excluding the Ironclad.
Did you get the instant win card? you win no effort. No? Enjoy being powerless and it gets worse the longer you go without winning. You will not have a viable route forward without a win. Cool ideas to make the progression tied to a story, but the issue with that is this exact problem.
If you are coming from the first game, here is a summary:
Every character is upgraded in this. They are upgraded versions of themselves from the first game every character has more exciting more over the top combinations and the enemies are much harder to beat. By the end of act 1, your character could easily beat every single enemy from the first game.

I suspect though that this issue I am having with Ironclad is an outcome I would easily have reached on any other character in worse outcomes or if I had played them last instead. After your first victory, you unlock better cards. As you continue getting victories on your other characters, the unlock system makes the game harder. Accordingly: the last character you beat the game with will thus have the hardest time playing through it and if you don't get a perfect run, you are almost soft locked.

Wow, this game is incredible.
A blast solo and much better with a squad. The next fest demo I played a long time ago was improved in every possible way to yield this masterpiece. I am delighted to support this game in it's early stages.
This game is unlike any 1 game that I have played, it feels like a passion project pulling inspiration from dozens of great games especially ones from the xbox 360 era. Rainbow Six Vegas meets Left 4 Dead meets modern gunplay and lootboxes. It is such a blast.

This game is a lot of fun, as of currently it feels like a fairly good amount of content is available and it is much more balanced than it was at the first update where you should just leave the PC on a few days to get the ending. There is really only 2 major bugs right now, 1 is slopes aren't solid and items fall through. The other is that crushers get jammed up and cannot be cleaned out without removing them.

I have been playing this since it was in early access. The mods, the DLCs, there are few games i can so confidently say I love. The 2nd DLC nuked the game, but the 3rd DLC has my favorite boss fight of any game.

The gameplay seems fun and the gunplay is good, I will refund and probably pick it up in 5-10 years when a PC capable of running this unoptimized trash is released. I have tried the various settings and I am unhappy with the options that I am presented with. My options are as follows:
1) Play at lowest settings and only get 92 fps without frame gen
2) Play with frame gen and endure the 40ms input latency but get 120fps at very high settings
3) Play without frame gen and get anywhere from 70-36 fps at medium to badass settings at 1440p
Typically when you buy a PC, you can expect that you will maintain consistent graphical quality over time. Though you will move from max settings and the highest frame rates when you first buy a PC to eventually balancing reduced settings or framerates, the quality you initially experienced is what you will always experience. Yesterdays Ultra settings will someday become Low settings. That is my understanding and rationale for not upgrading my system. The difference is that Borderlands 3 at max settings looks better than Borderlands 4 at low settings. At max settings in Borderlands 3 I got 143 fps at 1440p. In Borderlands 4 I get 92fps at low. It just isn't acceptable.

In addition to this, while I watch the price fall and performance get optimized, I can continue waiting on all of the DLC to release. I got the wonderlands DLCs and was clearly made the fool by Gearbox. I will not purchase a premium edition of a game until the content is released ever again.

The campaign is consistently just a boring rails shooter with one exception. The first half of Operation Ember Strike is among the most enjoyable campaign missions in any first person shooter. Ultimately, the campaign doesn't fit the game at all. The main villain is the same exact villain as Army Men: Sarge's War. The first military shooter I ever played so I found that a funny cliche.

Initially I did recommend this game. The multiplayer was incredible for a very long time, even after the battle arena released. All the same, this is a multiplayer game and like all multiplayer semi competitive games, I can only recommend them for so long. This game is more camped out than R6. Sometime around the end of January, the servers started being more empty and every game I play is now awfully laggy.

This is one of the only "Perfect" games I have ever played. There is nothing that can be done to improve this game in any way and the more you play other games the more you will realize what a masterpiece this game is.

It is a fun game. The gameplay is fun and funny, the story is funny. The environments are fun. It is just a fun game.

I liked the game and really enjoyed the experience. It would have been a great DLC.
I think the combat in this game is better than the previous games, especially the crafting, consumables, and weapons.
The environment is beautiful. The story is very well done. The setting perfect and they did a great job designing the environment. I liked this environment a lot more than dying light 2. The balancing is among the best I have ever experienced in any game.

Despite being an incredible experience, I have to address the price and the length.

I do not recommend the game because it is $60. This game takes about 1/3 of the time that I spent in Dying Light 1 or 2 to complete. In fact, I even spent less time in this game than I did in the major DLC for Dying Light 1. The achievements I do not have are for completionists. I experienced all of the gameplay in about 28 hours of playing the game(left running a couple of times for many hours thus my run time). Of those 28 hours, I regularly endured time consuming filler content in my opinion. My big issue is that the structure we regularly see is to get a quest, go do the quest, return to the quest giver. You will travel more than 60% of the way across the map for almost every single quest once you unlock the vehicle. The vehicle is still not that fast, there is regularly stuff to do in between, but if we take the 4 hours of the game where I was just running from place A to B, the game is now 24 hours long for $60. Near the end we see the best example of this. The quest giver is outside a building you have to do the quest inside. You start the quest, head in, 3-5 minutes later you are done with the quest. To complete the quest, you now have to walk 80% of the way across the map to see them again. The reason this feels intentional and not done for realism is because there is another side quest line where you go out, do the objective and you get called on the radio by the quest giver when you finish. They even put the reward into your stash.
There are 13(counting a 5 part side quest as 1) side quests and 12 main quests. Every single quest is a 10/10. They are all fun, unique, and interesting if you ignore the hike back across the map to turn them in. I think the quests are done extremely well. The convoys, the safe zones, safe spots, substations, and dark zones are all basically the exact same over and over in my opinion and they make it obvious that this should have been a DLC for Dying Light 2. Again, do a few and skip the rest except for an achievement.

Yes, there are in world events while you are traversing the world, but they don't have all that many of them and they can feel a bit redundant.

Ultimately, I would say that I enjoyed the game a lot but I received it for free. I wouldn't recommend this game to a friend who would have to pay full price. I am sorry that I cannot recommend this game.

Update for the Update: A free expansion for this game has been added. The Restored Land is a phenomenal idea that truly builds on what the game does right with the equipment and crafting system, yet it is ruined by an abysmal execution because of 2 of the worst things about the base game: Writing & Climbing. A permadeath mode where killing the zombies is meaningful beyond XP to level up is so much fun, now pair this with the writing where you are repeatedly thrown into the scenarios that would only arise if you are dumb. Why is the Hero of Haran repeatedly going out into the night just to get chased by volatiles for the sake of adding excitement to the game? If we excuse the writing, lets just address it: Permadeath with the climbing. This game has decent climbing, but you will fall to your death regularly because of the game. So if you aren't getting instakilled by the main characters stupidity, you are being killed by the climbing system. It will happen at least once per game.
