Awesome movement, awesome soundtrack (that soundtrack!).
Level design and enemy variety gets a _tad_ repetitive towards the end, but I thoroughly enjoyed this.

Has a very high "one more try"-level. Reminds me of the best bits of Trackmania. Runs very well on Deck. Recommended!

What an excellent game. Writing, soundtrack and gameplay just clicks.

Try to look past the repetition of levels / enemies, they manage to do something new or interesting with it eveyr time.

Pure relaxing bliss. An upgrade over the first game - all keyboard shortcuts feel natural and allow me to build/iterate quickly. Well worth the price.

Got this in a Humble Bundle and finished the campaign in about 2,5 hours. Very enjoyable. The fluidity of the controls is the real winner here: in no time you're diving and shooting like a pro. This feels like the best bits of F.E.A.R. strung together without pause. Recommended.

As addictive as MIni Metro, and even better. Unique visual style. Relaxing.

Though as nails, but the quick restarts and the aesthetic and soundtrack make up for your countless failures.

Played the game on an Oculus CV1. Even with my (relatively speaking) older headset, it was an absolute blast. I alternated between playing seated and standing. Played the whole campaign in 14.4 hours. Performance and visual quality (I played on "high" performance setting) was fine on my system (6700K, 16 GB Ram, RTX 2070 Super), possibly because of the relatively low CV1 resolution when compared to the flagship Index headset.

Don't go in expecting Half-Life 2 in VR. Four combine soldiers on your path in Half-Life 2 is not worth mentioning. 4 combine soldiers in HL: Alyx is A Problem(TM).

This game is designed for VR and has a smaller scale and scope, without comprimising on quality or game length. The first few levels (where ammo is very scarce) somehow reminded me of the resource management in Resident Evil. There is some inherent horror from seeing the usual Half-Life enemies (headcrabs, zombies, ...) up close, but the game never tries to be a full-blown horror game. I encountered 2 (light) jump scares in total. There's a very rememberable stealth level too, with some clever mechanics that use your VR hands to the fullest.

The Source 2 engine now has dynamic lighting, and the game makes great use of that. Every room/area is incredibly detailed (so many detailed objects to interact with) and made for exploring (and you will have to, for ammo, stims and upgrade pucks). I'd say every 20 mins you encounter some form of loading screen, which never takes very long (with the game on SSD).

Some of the puzzles are absolutely brilliant, whilst some of the optional ones get a tiny bit tedious later on in the game, when all they do is just become longer. The combat is frantic and clumsy. You are not John Wick. You will get shot to pieces whilst fumbling with magazines and grenades. Quicksave and a bit of planning will get you through, and the proven tactic of teleporting around the battlefield and taking potshots at whoever is chasing you always works. It ain't heroic, but it gets the job done.

Music and voice acting is brilliant. Rhys Darby (from Flight Of The Conchords) is "the voice in your earpiece", and is sweet and funny. Real good animations, too.

Recommended!

Some caveats:
- The game does not feature a "previously on Half-Life" movie or anything. It's not really necessary to be up to date on the lore, but if this is your first HL game, you will miss a lot of references and back story.
- I am very aware that VR is still considered a luxury at this point. I was very lucky to get an Oculus CV1 for my birthday a couple of years ago. Even on this lower end headset (by now), I never got the impression I was getting a sub-par experience. If you're on the fence and you already have a decent gaming rig, picking up an Oculus S or Quest might be a good investment.

A thing of simplicity and fun.
