A game where exploration is not just something nice you do while you play. In Miasmata, exploration is the game.

Traverse a deserted island any way you want, search for clues, fill out your map piece by piece, avoid the beast that salks you, get lost, figure out where you are, ask yourself how the hell you got there.

My experience so far:
So it turns out you CAN mix adventure games and platformers and actually make it work, while also stay true to it's sources:
The adventure parts doesn't shy away from the bizzare inventory puzzles that characterize the genre, but they (mostly) never feel unfair.
Meanwhile, the plataforming bits are well designed, and new mechanics are introduced often to keep it from geting old.
In short, no seccion feels like a gimmick or filler, and at the same time it doesn't feel like two different games stuck together.
The changings in pace can feel a bit weird at first, but soon the game makes it clear you're playing one cohesive experience.

imaginative, original setting
fun dialogues
adorable protagonist
well thought secondaries
fair puzzles
light hearted without being childish

a very, very good adventure.

note: if you see few hours on my playcount it's because i finished it on a dlc copy.

I really don't se why this game gets such a bad rep. Did you like The Sands Of Time? Do you enjoy expertly done platforming? Want to feel the exitement of a well timed jump-cascade freezing-wall jumping-etc... then this has it in spades.

Play it.
Stop reading and play it. The less you know about it beforehand, the better.

Oh, and to the people saying it's not even a game, well... it is. It's just that it's not clear whether it is you who are playing the game, or the other way around.

As with every walking simulator, it is difficult to recommend because whether you enjoy it will depend on whether you enjoy its story.

Sadly, I didn't.

Sadly, because it is indeed a beautiful game to look at and it has a nice athmosphere.

Oh, and be careful when reading those tags. I'm seeing it tagged as a platformer, which this is not. Yes, there are platforms and there's jumping, but you are never in control of those jumps, you just approach a ledge and a command will tell you to press the button to watch your character make it to the next one. There's no fail state.
I see it also tagged as an adventure game. Again, yes, there's talking to people to get items to pass obstacles, but you never choose what you say in those conversations, nor which item you want to use at each moment, you just press the button and let the game do its thing.

No, this is is a straight walking simulator -or interactive story, if you prefer- and that's perfectly ok. I just didn't like this one in particular.
