Wish it was a bit more optimized but other than that it's a very good and very faithful remaster

Really captured the essence of the PS2 games extremely well. No pay to win, microtransactions, etc. You can unlock literally everything by just playing the game. Well worth the money for even just the offline modes alone, let alone the online battles which are also extremely fun. There's a bit of a learning curve so you don't get absolutely decimated by some of the bots even, but it's not too crazy. Just hit the training mode for a bit and focus on defense mainly.

I do wanna mention that the online modes do NOT work if you're playing on any linux based device, including the steam deck which is what I tried it on (you can possibly get private matches to work if you're playing with someone else on linux but I haven't tried it).

I will say though, the game runs extremely well on both my steam deck and my windows gaming pc. The steam deck does require some settings tweaks though. Namely, I'd recommend setting the Resolution Scaling to 75. Hardly noticeable visually but very noticeable performance-wise. From there here are my settings:

V-sync = Off
Anti-Aliasing Quality = Medium
Shadow Quality = Low
Texture Quality = High
Post-Processing Quality = Medium
Effect Quality = Medium
Depth of Field = Off
LOD Quality = Low
Grass Quality = Off
Motion Blur Quality = Off
Camera Shake = Low
Destruction Effect Quality = Low

^ Runs at a solid 60 fps for me most of the time on my Steam Deck OLED with the exception of some episode mode cutscenes. Could lock it to 30 or 40 fps for even better battery life but I like the smooth 60 personally ^

As someone who's relatively new to Halo as a whole I think it's a fun game

If you played the first game and enjoyed it, you'll definitely enjoy this game. If you haven't played the first game, play it before this one. Because this game is basically just the first game but better and there are some story elements that carry over.

I've had fun with this game ever since the Wastelanders update and that came out back in 2020. Definitely worth a shot now in 2024! Though I highly recommend playing with friends if possible
