i just wanted to comment here because i saw your looking for team post on RGL, and i wanted to say that it would likely be a very good idea to start out in newcomer. 6s is a very different environment than pubs, even if you have the fundamentals down, the name newcomer is "newcomer to 6s" not newcomer to tf2. amateur has a VERY wide skill range, and if you are looking to have a balanced season it wont be the best place to get that from. your choice in the end, but once you play amateur once you're not allowed to play newcomer in the future, so i'd recommend starting there.
