Eufloria HD is an upgraded version of the original Eufloria, which I also played.

Both games are an extremely relaxing and atmospheric strategy based on some gameplay mechanics from simpler flash strategy titles: capture planets (here called asteroids), upgrade them (here with beautiful trees that grow over time) and they will generate units (here called seedlings) over time, then use said units to flood other asteroids. Take over the map and you win. Rinse and repeat.

Despite the fact that the games tend to reach a certain tipping point where it becomes easy to overwhelm your enemies, Eufloria is a very polished take on this idea, and a lot of fun to boot! The soundtrack is very mellow, and the visuals are clean and beautiful.

This version upgrades the visuals and adds some new mechanics, such as the ability to upgrade asteroids which have poor stats by sacrificing seedlings, and rallying points which means less needless clicking and dragging.

There is a solid story mode that can take about 10 hours to complete (or more depending on what speed you play at), as well as arcade levels and a New Game + mode. Overall, a decent amount of content for the price.

Honestly, I cannot recommend this game enough! It has a great, calming atmopshere, some straightforward but satisfying RTS gameplay and a solid campaign and arcade mode. Definitely worth the price!

Spent an hour building a gigantic, 30-cannon monstrosity to crush my enemies, see them driven before me and hear the lamentations of their women.

Press play and promptly explode.

10/10 would explode again.

Starbound is a fantastic game. As a big fan of Terraria I was really looking forward to this game anyways, but the improvements they have made to Terraria's formula really make this a worthwhile pickup even if you are tired of Terraria itself. As such, I'll be focusing on these improvements.

Firstly the pixel art is really fantastic, from the animations to the randomly generated worlds and creatures, to the point that you can choose a personality for your character which changes his or her stance while doing stuff. You can also use the arrow keys to make your character emote, from smiles to crying and other expressions, your character really feels more alive and expressive. I feel the art here is more consistent and detailed than that in Terraria and it really sucks you in.

Secondly the soundtrack is really incredible and was clearly made by a real professional. I am sure anyone who has played more than 10 hours of Terraria can fondly remember the main themes from the game, I feel the soundtrack here is less lighthearted and more pushed in the direction of that epic exploration vibe. Personally I love it.

Thirdly there are lots of little mechanical improvements that really move the game forward. You can equip items to your left and right hands, so you can hold a torch while holding a sword or a shield for example. Most mining tools mine a 2x2 or 3x3 area instead of the 1 block that was standard in Terraria, which dramatically increases the speed of exploration. Your character now gets hungry and cold and will die if you don't meet his or her needs, meaning that you have to craft warm clothes if you want to survive the icier planets, or build a hovel with a campfire to stay warm when exploring during a rainy night. You can also destroy items in a 3D printer aboard your ship so you can recreate them using pixels, the ingame currency - which is very useful if you find a statue in a dungeon you want more of.

I could go on. There are now some basic quests in the game, they've added lore and a character journal. There are mini dungeons everywhere - below ground and above - as well as larger biomes and dungeons. These include various interesting enemies such as prisoners, shielded droids and even traps like acid pits. There are tonnes of block types and props that you can pick up to decorate your home or ship with, and there's environmental effects like rain and snow.

In short, this is more than just Terraria in space. By adding more survival elements and utilizing a really cool setting it's managed to improve on many parts of the formula Terraria established. I can't wait for the full version!

Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons is a triumphant merger between gameplay mechanics and storytelling. It's also absurdly beautiful. Personally, I found the story to be extremely well executed and powerful, to the point where pressing a button has emotional weight. Definitely a must-try as this is definitely a shoe-in for (not triple A) GOTY. Other than a few mechanical issues this is a fantastic title and a must by if you like good storytelling in games!

As a young man trying to get his life in order this program has done real wonders for me. This program is simple and easy to use after you spend the first hour or so figuring it out, and it helps you manage all your accounting affairs in a clean and attractive interface. It has brought me real peace of mind and allowed me to get a much firmer grip on my finances with little effort. A great program if you need help keeping your cash in order!

I've never been one for point-and-click adventures, but Kentucky Route Zero is an astonishingly beautiful and mysterious title that drags you in with each moment. The environments are stunning as well and the sound design had my hairs standing on end at moments. I cannot recommend this title enough!
