Great game. One of those that you have to play, and if you played Half-Life, there is lore scattered throughout. Extra thick and juicy lore. Yummy!

-> Before you play and buy, Rebellion not long ago made a remaster of Sniper Elite V2. It might be worth waiting, seeing if this will also get a remaster.

This game requires you to figure out what-to-do and how-to-do on your own. If you played the early days of DayZ, this game is like a single player experience of that. The game lacks the polish and finish you expect to accommodate new players. The tips are very brief and quick to disappear, to the point where I missed some, having to go through settings and using bing for help. The controls for the game are absolute sh*t, you can tell its a dodgy port from a controller, and the movement and navigation in the game is painful, a blend of slow, unresponsive and clunky. The mission notes can be very ambiguous, sometimes lacking some details, which may result in you spending 4x longer on a simple task. And the characters, including the main, are pretty cringy. However, even if you can bear the above, then consider this: the story is surprisingly mellow, it is okay but far from anything great.

So why play this game? You'll be playing this game for the gameplay. About half way through, everything fell into place, where the game's flaws became quirks. Only then I started to enjoy the game.

Should you play it? There are much better games out there, and you shouldn't need to play for an extensive amount of time before you start to enjoy the game. But, if you are looking to play through all other Sniper Elite games, then give this a go. This game took me approx. 12h to complete.

Having played the early DayZ, I couldn't help wondering if this was their reference material for that game. You'll know what I mean if you decide to play it. Lastly, if you played the PS2 version, you'll be pleasantly surprised the graphics seem to be better, but it is a 2005 game, so even then, have your expectations low.

Play it for less than 2 hours and within 14 days of purchase, so you can just refund it.

Gearbox seems to have learnt from the issues from HL and HL:OF. Blue Shift has short but sweet story, includes good level design and gameplay. My major gripe with the original was sometimes the game expecting you have more health, making it difficult to progress through the game, this is far less noticeable here. Overall, this game got it right. A "harder" game isn't a better game, and Blue Shift was challenging enough to make it engaging, and sometimes unforgiving but at a good level. The end I believe was more entertaining, with more ass-clenching, and less grind. Easter eggs were on point and you never really lose the picture of the objective, it feels in your scope and achievable. It took my 4½ hours of casual play, and I'd recommend this one out of the two original Half-Life DLCs if you can't play both.

This is a DLC that sticks with the Half-Life story but from another perspective. Took me around 8h to beat playing casually. Generally, the pros and cons are the same from the first game, but it is worth a play only if you played other HL games. There are overlaps in levels from the original but your goals are fundamentally different. Team play is introduced in combat which changes the way you play in an interesting way, even if its just for some of the game. Additionally, there is a training option in the difficulty selection. I recommend you start with it because it actually differs from the original game's training, adding to the experience.

Decent game, took about 16h to beat. Overall: You are a drug addict, quick save is your cocaine. You can set bind keys to quick save and load a quick save. Difficulty ramped up about half way through and then some near the end: didn't seem very linear. Having a health bar makes you live with your mistakes as you progress. A problem when the game expect you are on high HP, but you actually are not. There are better games out there, only play this if you want to continue through the series. And if you are, you won't regret it.
