SO GOOD and CUTE and OCCASIONALLY MORBID and I like all of that very much. The simple character models and lush, painterly 2D environments pair together well. Feels like a weird late 90s/early 2000s PC game you only half remember in the best way possible

What a delight this game is! Its art and character design is filled to the brim with creativity, the music ranges from comforting to jamming, and the gameplay feels both familiar and fresh as a longtime fan of mon games.

As someone who does hardcore Nuzlockes with 27 different reference pages up during gameplay this really really appeals to me. Maybe you're the same!

Malcolm Holmes burst through the wall of a trailer I was sleeping in during the middle of the night to tell me about star bottle caps. 10/10

I was a playtester on this game, and I can say with authority, love and joy and care all radiate out of the work that was put into making this game. It still has the same Psychonauts wackiness and great comedy, but it's also become more mature, more understanding, more willing to tackle dark topics head on and acknowledge that human beings are flawed, and need help, and make mistakes, and sometimes even do awful things. But Psychonauts 2 understands that human beings aren't defined by any of this, and that people can learn from their wrongs and can change for the better. And it tells all this through a delicious array of gorgeous, varied mental landscapes, through creative collectibles that reveal the memories, loves, and regrets of the colorful cast, and through a combat and platforming system that is much improved from its predecessor. I can't recommend this game enough. It's an emotional triumph.

An absolute achievement on every level - fun and frenetic gameplay, tons of collectibles, standout characters, gorgeous and striking art direction, Darren Korb at it again, and a story that's fittingly melodramatic for Greek mythology while also being heartfelt and well written. Even if you tend to avoid roguelikes, I think it's still worth a try. It's difficult, yes, but there's plenty of ways to make it more manageable (or harder, if you want a challenge!), and hearing the character banter alone is worth it, in my opinion.

Also you can fish in this game. Automatic recommendation

Beating up an army of terrifying shadow monsters with a small posse of fifteen year olds still feels amazing twelve years later

A truly well made game with a story that could have only worked in this medium, and took advantage of it. It's clear that love and thought was put into every facet, from the personalities of the AIs you meet to their distinct, memorable aesthetics to the seamless worldbuilding. I found some of the moral choices to be a bit simple, but I did greatly enjoy the variety of dialogue options I was presented with when having regular conversation with other Teks. I also loved the surprise connections to one of my favorite indie games (which I won't spoil). Definitely buy this if you like strong narrative and quality science fiction.
