Believe the hype, this is a solid turn based RPG. The combat is extremely engaging and the story so far draws you in. I usually don't "follow the herd" on games but I'm glad I got this!

It looks like after the recent patch, Final Fantasy IV PR will fail to load. After you launch it and after the CRI Ware logo comes up, it just shows a white screen. I left this running for 20 minutes and nothing happened. I've tried everything that you'd think to do too, verify file integrity, reinstalled completely, updated graphics drivers, and all kind of other things. Square Enix is no help and the Steam forums have numerous posts about this issue. Note this doesn't happen for FF1 PR which I also own, just FFIV, so it's specific to this product. I can't recommend this until they fix it. Square, get it together, your quality has been dropping for years.

Edit: I had to completely delete the Final Fantasy IV PR folder and reinstall. The Steam uninstall function doesn't do enough I guess. I have updated my review to Recommended

I backed this game and was really excited to play it, but there's 2 big issues that make me not want to recommend it.

First of all, the encounter rate seems way too low, you have to run around a lot to get into fights to level up/get money. That brings me to the biggest most annoying issue, and that's the fact that with an Xbox controller it keeps moving hard left randomly whether I use the Dpad or analog stick and I have to take the batteries out and shut it off and then turn ti back on. Sometimes it fixes it for 5 minutes, sometimes right away it happens again.

It's so annoying that the game is pretty much unplayable to me in this condition. Until they patch this out I can't recommend it. This game needs some serious work.

Having grew up on playing older D&D titles like Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights and many other games I thought Solasta might scratch that itch. It seemed to start out really well but personally when I realized how rations worked in this game, I couldn't see myself continuing to play. That is a mechanic that broke my enjoyment in playing it and from what I've seen, it's an actual potential game breaking mechanic. There should be a choice to either turn off or on this requirement, and it looks like they learned nothing from the previous titles I mentioned. You should be able to rest as long as there aren't enemies nearby and not rely on an ever increasing ration requirement, especially for traveling.

I know I'll get some comments on this saying that rations are provided in chests or they're not that much gold etc. - that's not the point. The point is that to me, this is a needless mechanic that tries to add some realism but all it does is try to merge a D&D RPG with a survival game. I won't refund the game as it's my fault for not researching that enough, but I do want to warn anyone else thinking of buying the game.

I enjoy the game so far, but I can't recommend it due to too many instances of crashing. Devs put out a patch to fix a memory leak, but it seems to still be a problem and crashes are random - go through a door? Game crashes. Go through the door after restarting? Game doesn't crash, but now you crash when entering a dialogue.

If the crashes are fixed I'll modify my review but for now my advice is wait until this is fixed to purchase.

Way better than Sniper Elite 4, enemy AI isn't a bunch of idiots and you'll actually have a challenge completing these maps. Although I'm always tempted to just blow up the trucks with gas barrels on them and have a nice drawn out firefight lol

Had to take a short Alt+Tab break to post this review, currently playing and I'm LOVING it! I was a backer for this when it was on Kickstarter and unfortunately my backlog and lack of time didn't let me play this until now. I'm sorry I didn't play it sooner because I'm having tons of fun - it plays like an older style Fire Emblem game, the battles are interesting and challenging and the story and characters are well done. FYI - Bianca as a Reverie with the War PIck is a BEAST and almost unfair to the enemy. She's my strongest ally at the moment!

If you enjoy turn based RPGs like Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy Tactics or Shining Force this is definitely your game!

I can't recommend this game in the current state.

I played this game as a kid when it first released in 1994 and I've played through it a few times before this, so this isn't my first rodeo.

For the most part the pixel remaster is well done - the music and some added in special stuff during the Opera scene was really great too! But there are way too many bugs at this time, game breaking for me. I've had fights just freeze after killing the last monster, with the music still playing as if the game didn't recognize the battle was over. I've had scripted bosses that should have fled just keep on going through attack phases, making it impossible to proceed as I end up dying to a boss you shouldn't have had to fight for longer than a few rounds.

Square Enix, you rushed this and it shows. It never should have been released in this state.

If/when these issues are patched I may change my review to Recommend but as of now it's a no from me.

I loved Momodora: RUtM but this game just isn't it. The difficulty I feel is way more than it should be, it's cheap rather than challenging. Most enemies kill you in 2 hits if not one-shot kill, levelling up is pointless if you're only going to gain 1HP per level and you get hit for 150 out of 300. This wouldn't be so much of a problem if the combat wasn't poorly designed, I can't keep track of how many times I've done a dodge roll or parry and watched myself still get hit even though I clearly avoided the enemy.

The developer clearly needs to learn that difficulty shouldn't be sadistically punishing if you're trying to make a fun game. At least have some difficulty options. At least I got this on sale but off to the Uninstall bin this goes, while I could have spent money on a better game.

I initially made a review comment stating that I didn't like the forced roguelike mechanics. The developer reached out to me about my concerns and has said that changes will be made to make the game have a metroidvania mode without roguelike. I am taking the developer at his word and am revising my review - if the game will have that kind of mode I can absolutely recommend it. Additionally I felt it was really nice for them to reach out!
