The solace I seek
to avoid that fated hour
brings no true comfort;
though it pains me,
I endure it daily—
if only to delay the inevitable,
if only for a moment.

Within that solace
I yearn for control,
though I know it is
merely imaginary.
I persist,
believing I can stop
whenever I choose,
yet only a flicker
of temporary control
ever shines through.

The dread of infidelity,
never the question of “if’s”,
only “when”—
To avoid the pain,
I shun every spark of love—
a fleeting glimpse of bliss
if it means I'll never endure
