Survival sandbox mode is beyond excellent. Highly recommend the TFTFT DLC if you enjoy it.

Wintermute (story campaign) is beyond salvageable. Terrible ending to a story people waited almost a decade to see through.

Hinterland is great at designing creative, handmade survival regions and systems that reward planning but terrible at putting a story in them. Almost all survival games are like this - they are best at letting the player tell their own stories.

Also beware that the community has a toxic positivity problem. The current review score might make you believe otherwise (66%), but a lot of people waited and gave them a leeway for years because Hinterland generally delivered more than what was promised, mostly by taking their sweet time but I think Ep 5 is a passing point for a lot of us.

The only reason why I give it a thumbs up is because I have 1500 hours in the game. IF I bought it for the story mode alone I would feel cheated.
