The best Saints Row, with three a close second. Juice patch gets it running, runs like sh*te otherwise on modern hardware and graphically has aged roughly. But the story beats are great and the humor was spot on. Def worth the price of admission.

Who cares if he is making money on Le Dumb Bananas, if anything it doubles as a commentary on micro transactions and steam's monetization system.

As evil as you want to be, as good as you want to be, as homoerotic as you want to be, as puritanical and straight as an arrow as you want to be. Everyone can do everything, in the context of the game path and dialogue and character choices. Which is exactly how developers should consider doing things in these kinds of story and dialogue rich games.

The attention to detail and love this game was given really shows. Level design is especially inspired. Sometimes the levels seem as though you are missing a lot of content as you go through, but that makes total sense: you are indeed missing content because the levels are designed to be navigable by four different characters with different move sets. Freedom Planet really moves into its own with this game.
The con I would have to mention is the sense of difficulty spikes, especially on some boss bottles. It can be almost Soulsian, where the fight is very mechanically doable once you figure it out, but you breeze through the stage and then get junk-slapped so hard you wanna throw the controller for the next seven attempts until the fight finally clicks.

never ever ever pay the full retail price for DLC. Use the new subscription system, and if they ever take that away don't even bother. Long as you can play the whole shebang for the base game +$5 a month that your actively playing, give it a whirl. Frankly they should try the sub style on the other paradox games, or make the sub cover them all for another $1 or two, I don't wanna drop another $60-80 on stellaris and HOI4 either sight unseen.

While I find a certain fascination with the man who invented the SEALS and pissed in the governments cornflakes so hard they threw him out, this game is basically the soggy piss soaked cornflakes. There isn't even a JUMP feature in the game. Verticality is handled with one way ladders and ropes. The game randomly flickers to desktop mid firefight and back, throwing grenades is like a monkey throwing its own ♥♥♥♥ (with less accuracy OR effect on enemy units), the shotgun fires nerf darts etc etc etc. This hunk of flaming ♥♥♥♥ got phoned in. It's not even that its old, the much older Soldier of Fortune games turned in better scores than this. ♥♥♥♥ deserved better than this.

2024 Update: Look at the hyper monetization, battlepasses on skins on more battletrash. And now this game only barely has a higher player count than the original Insurgency.

They went from having an incredible experience and community mods/skins in Insurgency to a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ CoD MP only wannabee ass game with paid costumes. Par for course in the modern gaming experience, don't waste your money. They obviously can make a good game, and yet chose not to. You buy this game and others like it, YOU are part of the problem. I bought this game years ago early access before all of these problems really became cemented in.

2.3 EULA introduces a bunch of legal f-you's to the player base. CDPR speed running being corpo scum themselves.

*I am gonna leave my original review below, but I want to say that the 1.5 update, over a year later, FINALLY has the game in that "Day 1 State" instead of beta state. The game is finally worth revisiting. That said, I really hope they begin fleshing out the RPG side of things now. Branching paths, better interactions, more conversations (even if they are not all voiced). But, they are trying, and that is a lot after the flustercluck of a release*

Ambitious to a fault. The games biggest drawback was the hype train, and there are tons of ideas and points in-game that are not fleshed out or were obviously abandoned so the dev's could make a release date this decade. Hopefully the game continues to get love and support (and mod tools) for years to come. Its got that "Skyrim" feel to it where it could be built upon for a long time. The game itself is solid, play is fun. Lots of what you would expect in things like RPG elements and dialogue are sadly missing, with the game going more action than action-rpg. Might as well not have a prompt to talk to NPC's. Food system is vestigial because all the buffs are the exact same and their is no hunger or thirst mechanic.
Still, its worth picking up, even if your gonna wait for a sale.
