On it's own, it's a delightful, yet small metroidvania. The puzzles are descent and each item can usually be used in with some flexibility.

Although it has to be mentioned that the real meat of the game, the arg portion, has already been long solved. As it's pretty much impossible to solve on your own, that means either gathering a group of people who are willing to not look up the answers and give an attempt to figuring it out yourselves, or settle with the fact that the biggest puzzles have already been figured out for you.

With this in mind, my recommendation is to make sure that you get it on sale.

There's a reason this Visual Novel was so popular.

Only thing I really have to add is that you may want to stop after you get to the first ending of the game. The added routes don't really add too much more, although a few questions are answered. The biggest issue with it is just that it's a slog to even get those routes started. Additionally, the true ended is barely different than the first ending.

If you know what you're doing, you can get not only this game, but it's predecessor as well.

For the original McGee game, once you start it up, you can tell that it's an old game. Both in the graphics and the controls. As far as I'm concerned, the original graphics still look great, even if you can see the lack of polygons. There are HD packs floating around for it though if that's what you prefer. The combat is descent enough and you get a wide array of weapons, although some are more useful than others. The platforming is rather janky though, with Alice feeling rather floaty. Plus the final few levels are giant mazes that force you to fight for every couple of steps. Keyboard and Mouse is the way to go.

For Madness Returns, the platforming is much improved. Alice is still floaty, but only because one of her abilities is literally to float. You also go beyond double jumping, making the platforming feel fluid. Combat is a bit of a downgrade in this game I feel. You get much fewer weapons, although you'll be using all of them regularly. My biggest issue is that each enemy is a 'puzzle'. Once you find the solution for how to defeat them that's the only way you'll ever fight that enemy, you can try to brute force a different way but it's hardly ever worth it. There are a lot fewer levels in this game, and they're much longer than they should be. The only level I felt was an appropriate length was the fourth one, which just so happened to shortest of them all. More levels that don't drag on for as long would have been much better. Controller is the best way to play this game.

One thing that must be mentioned is that this port is rather buggy. Every time I start up the game I'll have to restart it soon after it loads up just to get past the first loading screen. You'll also find other glitches while playing that will make it that you have to lower your settings in order for the game to not crash when you get to particular checkpoints. Thankfully I never ran into a bug that made finishing the game impossible, so long as I lowered settings or restarted the game.

Overall I'd say that the first game is better, but that for 10 dollars, it's well worth getting both of them.

I enjoyed it, but a fair warning to those that try it. The intro is very different from the rest of the game. In the intro you're hunting down other curse users with you curse, figuring out how to kill them before they kill you. It's all very high stakes and thrilling.

After the intro though, you never use a curse again. It turns more into a detective game where you're searching for the mastermind behind the whole thing. It's still enjoyable, but I found that the intro was easily the best part of the game.

The gameplay is just walking around and clicking the f button on whatever the next spot is, until combat is finally unlocked and it's extremely tedious.

A game with unique gameplay. It's also short, especially if you're good at it. Up to you if that's worth 10 dollars or not

This game has good voice acting, an alright story and not much else. Maybe for a few dollars it'd be worth the price, but at 18 it's way too overpriced

Be aware: This is mostly a cooking game. It has a slightly creepy atmosphere, but the horror is minimal at best. For four dollars, this is a decent game.
