It's painful, you die a lot of stupid deaths, it can be as unforgiving as hell, yet I keep pressing the damn button again, and I never get tired of exploring the depths of whatever it creates and seeing what the hell I get to work with, every time.

And yes, I *still* die a lot of stupid deaths.

This game is hard. Not the combat. Not the puzzles. Maybe a little bit here and there. But that's not why this game is hard.

This game is hard, because this game deals with very dark and very real human things. Things that are incredibly hard for us to deal with, or in many cases, things we find that we *cannot* find a way to deal with properly. The journey is full of pain, feelings, and failings, and ultimately a grand showing of how incredibly important it is for us to come to terms with our own darkness.

Zelda/Elden Ring/Fez/Metroid

All in one place and frankly it checks all the boxes for me! Beautiful game, ambient/deep wall of sound soundtrack, and seriously, the detail they put into the Instruction Booklet and how they have you use/deciper that is quite brilliant to me.

There's been no better time to truly get into a Souls game. That time is now.

Souls games are painful. Life is painful. Growth is painful. The good kind of painful. The kind of pain that punches you down over and over again, but given perseverance and steady grace, you can and will overcome. If you would choose to believe that you can.

This is the most polished version of the franchise by far, with many quality of life updates, much to see, and much to explore. The amount of things packed into this game is dense; secrets that are buried in plain sight with no intent of a player ever finding them (though someone almost always eventually does). The environments are beautiful, and nothing short of breathtaking.

You will die. But you will come back stronger every time. And if you learn to love that journey, that process, then you will never get enough of this game.

-NOTE- I was bought into this game from the beginning, and played on PC. I am well aware of the general bugginess of the game on launch, particularly on consoles; I did encounter a few such bugs myself as well, but overall had a rather bug-free experience on PC. I believe CDPR should've released it on PC first, then spent the remaining time tuning it up for a separate and much improved console release. All in all, CDPR fell suspect to gamer hype and AAA executives demanding more from the game at every turn throughout its development process. The result is a bit sad, but the core of the game itself is still very high quality.

Put some time into the game when you first get in. Get your head in there. The driving handling is pretty ass, aside from the motorcycle, so I just used that the whole game and had a fantastic experience. I also grabbed a controller every time I got myself into some wheels; it's much better than trying to handle with WSAD keys.

The city is low-key alive. Yes, the NPC's follow predictabale patterns, and after a while you start to get a feel for how some of the things generate and how they generally behave. But if you let those thoughts fade for a moment, and just sit on a ledge nearby and just kind of watch how people are milling about, stopping here and there, maybe even having a spontaneous congregation that doesn't make a ton of sense...that's the kind of stuff that happens with people in real life all the time right?

This game is absolutely fantastic, despite the botched release, and despite many of the same hype masters rooting for its downfall after it didn't live up to each and one of their lofty expectations. Game developers crunched for months to get this out in any sort of playable form, and did their best to meet request after request. CDPR has owned as much, and is committed to continuing to improve the game and make it better. This game is as much of a technical challenge as it is a marvel, and it's worth exploring (at least on PC for now).

My strongest advice? Find a way to personify a version of yourself in the game that you'd like to roll with, and make decisions and carry out actions in the game based on that. Navigate it in a way that makes sense to you, and even sometimes straight up ignore all the ♥♥♥♥ coming at you when you're just riding around. Carve your own path of intrigue in the streets of Night City, and you'll find much more reward for your efforts far beyond what the game would ever suggest to you.

Doom: Eternal if it was a Roguelite. Also a game from Supergiant; they are excellent developers and deserve to be supported (played Bastion and Transistor too!).

Also has a Dota-like feel of depth for me; I can't geek out about this game hard enough and everything in the game seems to just work.

Half-Life, but improved! Much credit to the team that put in the hours to make this a reality; glad to see they're able to see monetization for their efforts as well.
