it's just like playing the single player version of the game except everything is locked behind arbitrary "ranks" and clothing is more expensive than modern day prices. Oh and they added a swarm of hackers who can teleport and lock you in an endless loop of explosions that kill you and force you to quit the game. Really interesting design choice to make half of the online gameplay loop avoiding hackers so that you can actually play.

I play a ton of games, but I rarely review them here, but felt like I had to say something because people are review bombing this game, and I can't figure out why... granted it has a slow start where you're pretty weak. Enemies feel bullet spongey for the first 2-3 hours, and your melee hits are pitiful until you start getting upgrades and understand/learn how to craft, and then combat is vastly improved and feels much more rewarding. Once you reach mid game, the exploration and crafting systems start to open up to you more. There are plenty of scavenging opportunities and side quests to do to make exploration worth it; especially when crafting/upgrading items is very powerful. Planning out and building your character and equipment really matters. Combat could be a little better, but works well enough and is rewarding if you actually learn and execute the attack combos and special moves rather than spam clicking. I suspect many players with few hours were just spamming attacks and brute forcing their way through combat by chewing through consumables, which isn't that fun or interesting (because that's what I did for the first few hours). But once you get the hang of it (and once that tactic stops being viable) character movement is fast and fluid and you're able to do some pretty cool things in combat. The complaint that the game visually looks bad are just silly, you can see in the screenshots and videos how it looks its a very pretty game, sure, certainly not groundbreaking, but good enough that its not distracting from the experience. I've also encountered no bugs or frame rate drops you'd get in a poorly optimized or unfinished game.

The only really valid complaint, that maybe bothers others more than me is the decision to have 2 different VO lines for all of the NPC dialog, the subtitles should appear DURING the gibberish language the animals speak, instead of waiting for the narrator's VO. The way it's currently done, I'm skipping all of the gibberish VO, waiting for the subtitle and then just reading that before skipping again. Because the conversations just take too long w/ too much downtime otherwise. I agree it was a bad decision, but it's a minor annoyance you can work around, and isn't worth tanking the entire game over.

There are far worse open world/exploration games on steam that are reviewed/recommended higher than this. There are terrible early access exploration/survival games that will probably never be finished recommended higher than this on steam. So why is this getting such a negative response? Is it a 9 or 10/10 game? No. But it's fun, it's well made, and doesn't run like garbage. That should at least be easy positive review. Have some patience to let the game establish itself, and you might actually enjoy it.

its X-Com, enough said. if you've never heard of it, that's even more reason to check it out. But, honestly, where have you been?
