"When the Past Was Around" is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played. I've played it through completely twice so far, and it made me feel so much both times. The puzzles are super enjoyable, the art is stunning, the music is incredible. However, the story is what really hooked me most of all - it's told so beautifully and convincingly! Eda and Owl feel so real and fleshed out that it's impossible not to be touched by everything they go through, the bitter and the sweet. Spending time in their world is therapeutic and cathartic, and it's the perfect blend of absolute joy and crushing sorrow. Honestly, this is one of the best pieces of art I know that successfully tackle the themes of love and loss while leaving a lasting impression.
