Plaugue Tale: Innocence Review
Introduction:
• Brief overview of the game (genre, developer, release date)
◦ A simple stealth game with some action elements
◦ Asobi
◦ 2019
• First impressions or expectations
◦ It was little slow and was worried I’d get bored.
• Why this game is worth reviewing
◦ For some reason, this game is very popular but I can only assume because the story resonates with other but for me, I just care about game play and it just fails. I’ve been broken. This game isn’t fun. The mechanics are not built for this and people should have mentioned that rather than just say the boss fights were a little annoying.
Graphics & Visuals:
• Art style and design
◦ Realistic art-style with Mediveal Era french archetecture
• Frame rate and performance
◦ It is unstalble 110 to 120fps on ultra settings in 1440p for my 9070xt whenever I unlocked vsync since I prefer a consistent framerate once I pass 60 fps.
• Notable visual effects or environments
◦ None.
Gameplay & Mechanics:
• Core gameplay loop
◦ The game is a simple stealth game with some action elements and crafting.
• Controls and responsiveness
◦ They are consistent. Minimum standard for modern games. I’m not one of those people who are against developers using less traditional control schemes for their games.
• Unique features or innovations
• Difficulty level and balance
◦ Generally easy. You must
Story & Narrative:
• Plot summary
◦ Amelia has been tasked by her mother with saving her brother ‘Hugo’ from a deadly ailment while Europe is in the throws of a plauge. At the same time, while dealing with attacks from fearful villagers, the english army and the Inqusition
• Character development
◦ Really weird how she goes to hating her brother to being willing to sacrifice anything in less than 72 hours since that about how long I calculate the first couple chapter. Plus, the game tells you whenever there are timeskips.
• Voice acting and dialogue
◦ It okay but I felt Melie’s voice acting is bad.
• How engaging or immersive the story is
◦ For me, it is not. I was not bored enough to stop but the gameplay is so bad that I am unwilling to continue playing.
Sound & Music:
• Sound effects
◦ Okay
• Background music
◦ Nice audio but I would listen to it outside of the game.
• Overall audio design
◦ Audio seems well designed.
Performance & Technical Aspects:
• Load times
◦ Besides Asobi’s logo being unskippable, the games has no load times once you get into a chapter and even chapters are preety quick eventhough I’m loading from a HDD but I have over 40gbs of RAM so that probably helps with caching.
• Bugs or glitches
◦ It did happen but it was only minor enough to remember it happen but not enough to remember what happen and besides that the game was stable.
Replayability & Content:
• Game length
◦ Levels take about 30 minutes to about 1:30. I beat approx. 16 levels as I just stopped playing after reaching the Cathedral at 11 hours according to Steam.
• Side quests or additional content
◦ Not many, but you did have optional in level continent like saving a person in Ch4 or getting revenge. That was nice but I’m preety sure the game doesn’t account for it. Now that I think about it, revenge killing the man doesn’t give you achievement for some reason.
• Multiplayer or online features
◦ N/A
Pros & Cons:
• Highlight key positives
◦ Nice graphics
• Mention any negatives or areas for improvement
◦ The ending of the game pushes the mechanics beyond what they can reasonably handle and I hate grinding so I’m not restarting the game so I can upgrade my equipment to deal with the difficulty spike due to the limits of the mechanic.
Final Verdict:
• Overall impression
◦ It should have been lazy and kept beign a stealth game with action elements or just let the player power trip to the boss fight.
• Who would enjoy this game
◦ People who crafting system, story based focus media, and doesn’t care much about interesting level design or game play.
• Score (if applicable)
◦ Unknown, I know I will never play this game again.
