Early Access Review
Off to a good start so far, I really enjoyed the concept of the campaign although it definitely needs more variety in missions, enemies and factions (which I guess will be added during early access)

The core gameplay is X-com but with better (IMO) resource management and roleplaying elements. Your named characters are actually squad leaders so instead of 6 or 10 superheroes single handedly winning a war you're actually commanding an entire company of Marines, with customisable squads of infantry and vehicles.

The simulation side is quite lacklustre. You micromanage workers like you're a shift supervisor and then decide on treatments like you're a doctor. It feels kind of incoherent.

The devs must have known it was a bit lame so instead of focusing on the hospital side, they added a weird warfare minigame where somehow the soldiers you're healing are fighting the Germans on the steps of your hospital wards... it's honestly bizarre, even feels a little disrespectful towards the wounded survivors of that war.

If the devs felt that the simulation side wasn't engaging enough, they should have expanded that, not added this weird minigame

Really interesting story set in one of my favourite worlds! Tonally has a lot of the same mixture of dark and light as the Pillars of Eternity games, which was good. Mechanically, it clearly takes a lot of inspiration from Dragon Age Inquisition, except that it prunes all the boring fetch quests and just leaves a great main story. It's also similar in style to Skyrim, except the characters are much better written, and the themes are mature and engaging. 4 companions to choose between seemed like the sweet spot, with them not becoming boring from over-familiarity but also not being indistinct from there being too many.

Graphics are great, and the music is good.

Would love a sequel or an expansion.

Very enjoyable although a little complicated. Interface takes a bit to understand. AI doesn't seem great but the game is still being developed.

Reminds me of playing Harpoon way back on Windows 3.1, but now we get an awesome 3d overlay!

Really fun management game that includes a lot of social development of the society, something I've always felt missing from similar games. Pretty challenging scenario although quite short.

Very fun action/RPG/FPS game with some cool survival mechanics. Really liked the story and setting. "British Fallout" but with a tighter focus on the narrative. Characters were interesting and memorable. Don't think it has a lot of replayability though, although I'm looking forwards to the expansions to add new story arcs.

This game is great!
It's a city builder like Anno or Pharaoh, but full of character. The mechanics like population, production and resolve (morale) seem pretty well developed, and there are increasing difficulty levels (20 of them) after you've got the basics mastered. The graphics are super cute but the gameplay has a dark side as well which I really like (you can build altars to evil gods and sacrifice your cute beavers and lizardmen to gain new powers). The sound and music are also really good.

It just seems like a reskin of the Witcher. The character has no weight to his movements and the combat is pretty boring.

Captures the aesthetic of 40k really well! A grimdark dystopia, full of betrayals and plot twists.

Music is really good as well. Mixture of electronic, industrial, metal. Very atmospheric.

3d graphics are a little cartoony when you zoom in, but 2d graphics like character portraits are beautiful.

Game is paced quite well. Probably a hundred hours from start to finish for a completionist like me. Difficulty curve is maybe a little easy for an experienced player who takes advantage of the interactions between skills etc, but that means the combat is quite complex, and might be tough for a newbie. I'd suggest experienced RPG players should start with a higher difficulty to keep things challenging.

Characterisation and plot are very good. Most of the recruitable characters have some kind of character arc, depending on how much you put into your relationship with them, and depending on whether you bring them to a particular mission (not going to spoil anything here).

The game world reacts to your choices fairly well but not amazingly so. It would have been nice for some granular changes in NPC personalities as you develop your ideological attachment. The ideologies are dogmatic, iconoclastic and heretical, and unfortunately your retinue only comments on this choice once or twice.
