the game is a fantastic love letter to re1. i completed it without much trouble, stuck just here and there, and finished in 7 hours. it's memorable and well worth taking your time, and even doing more playthroughs. it's expertly done and a wonderful game

it's dark,its difficult,as well as intriguing and incredibly unique. Open the door in the woods. let yourself go crazy and see what experiences you can gain. test your luck, or burn down the house with you inside it. the will have you curse to yourself whenever certain events occur, and it's great

This game is excellent.

it's a bit dated by now but still hold's up in performance, story, and gameplay. The guns and combat feel great. the spooks are nice and put together very well. The AI is fantastic.

The dlc however, perseus and extraction are not as great. They're not as well polished even though mechanically a similar game. The DLC was also made from another developer and isn't considered cannon. it's pretty skippable

There are some maddening frustrating elements about this game. such as there are no invincibility frames from standard hits. Due to this, action ramps up fast, real fast, blindingly fast and suddenly you're dead.

you're going to be one shot, often.

the fun parts are that the mutations (character upgrades) feel impactful, and game changing.

The guns are diverse, satisfying, and get huge. real huge, literally huge.

This game is much more fun on coop. playing with a friend to revile in agony and celebrate along with the interplay adds much more depth to this game.

It has soul.

From the crafted atmosphere, to the polished combat, between the integrated HUD, through the honed voice acting, and all the way to the fabricated story, I love this game. The developers put so much love into this game they probably called it their son/daughter during it's creation. Without going into a synopsis of what the game is, let me just give a few details on what makes this an enthralling experience that sets the gold standard of what a videogame can truly be.

The world FEELS real. The destitute inhabitants of the Metro, their clothes, and how the grimy nature of everything will send a chill down your spine. As if the safety, and warmth of home is truly rare in this world. The desperation of your survive adds to this. Scavaging for air filters, bullets, first aid, isn't a way of life, but merely terrified survival. The great beasts of this game, refusing to bow to death until bludgeoned with repeated blasts of shotgun shells will make you feel utterly fragile. As you scrap by, kill your enemies and fell these abominations, eventually you too feel like those venerated veterans. You learn how badass, and grim they are by becoming one of them. You are not some great hunter, or glorified golden child amongst a group of 'could-be's'. You are one of them. Another hallowed soldier that was both lucky and strong enough to survive in the metro, the surface, and the atrocities that man will still create while facing their own oblivion.

Play this game exactly how you feel and understand the balance/price of your play style. Guns blazing with high adreniline is an amazing feeling. But ammunition is not plenitiful, and a bullet in the right place is your grave. Slow, stealthy, and meticulous is exacting and safe. But beasts can smell you, air filters do not last forever, and there are worst things than the traps of men lurking in the darkness.

tl;dr

To new gamers out there, let the frustrations be part of it's appeal, and to the old gamers, let it's flaws be part of it's charm; I'm sure you will fall in love as well.
