Intense thriller that will keep you sleuthing for more clues to unravel multiple threads of mystery to make sense of it all. The game does end abruptly, but the `A Criminal Past` DLC makes up for it with the best Deus Ex ever offered.

Bland - each of the main characters vomit copious exposition at you without any reason for you to care about them to the point where you just want them to stop rambling. Found myself skipping most of the dialogue since none of the characters care about you - they just want to tell their stories and their little clever quips. Exploration is not rewarding. Random junk spams your entire vision so you must be selective on what you pick up otherwise, you become encumbered (I stopped picking up anything). I wish I could do side quests, but there can be up to eight loading screens just to do a simple back-and-forth fetch quest inside a city. Having to travel multiple systems just to get a location of another quest marker to obtain a power is tedious. And gets more tedious because once you arrive, you are forced to run across an empty planet for 15 minutes to play the same mini game and animation 25 times (one for each power). I stopped collecting powers after the fourth one. Economy makes no sense as a sandwich is 200 credits while a ship weapon is 1000 credits. Enemies are bullet sponges with no logic - sometimes it takes 30 seconds of standing face to face emptying clips with various sorts of ammo. The bosses are worse since they teleport everywhere for no actual reason. Every character is too agreeable; even the worse criminals are the biggest softies you've ever met. The final two bosses in the game spoke about a giant showdown between them and you and you can talk them down just by saying a single line of "aren't you tired of doing this for so long" and they instantly agree and the game ends with a higher level being saying you unlocked Unity or whatever and you have ascended. I feel like the journey I went through and the work I put in was not deserving of such a feat since it was all handed to me. Very hollow.

Late game, there is a massive difficulty spike - not in actual mechanic difficulty but the fact of zero save points. There is a point where you need to fight four bosses without a single save point where all the previous levels had reasonable save locations as levels went on. Each boss has a different pattern, so you could be doing great with the 1st and 2nd boss but you need to keep doing them over and over again just so you can get to the final boss to learn his pattern. This is deliberate gameplay padding: Not fun and and goes against the rhythm set by the game until this point. I'd change the difficulty to 'easy' (you take 50% less damage), but that's not possible and you need to start the game from scratch - something I'd rather not do considering how much backtracking this game has.

It's a shame since the game looks nice, has nice music (I like the one where you are climbing the tower outside upwards), and fun weapon play. I also don't like is how floaty the character feels which takes me out of the game sometimes since I need to be super careful that my inertia doesn't make me fly off an edge after I land. Lastly, getting the dialog/cutscenes before each boss is a pain when you need to redo them multiple times.

Exhausting to play. Every time you complete a minor objective and then need to backtrack, an entire army seems to spawn out of nowhere deliberately trying to pad the game play time with tedious encounters like a group of 10 mini spiders or 5 flying turrets or 20 goons spread out in a large room that you already cleared. This isn't including the fact that some open spaces are huge and the sprites get extremely small. In some moments where the black coated enemies are on the roofs with black backgrounds, they are impossible to see unless you look for two pixels worth of eyes or wait for a flash of thunder (not including the fact that they can aim at you with deadly accuracy).

The reloading is a bit awkward which prevents running and gunning too much so I am left to pick off enemies one by one sometimes (especially when I run low on ammo unless you want to scour all the corners of the map for a few rounds of ammo which won't respawn after the enemy respawns when you're forced to backtrack). Melee combat with your electric baton is like swinging in a dream. It's so difficult to hit enemies with them: if you miss by even an inch, you are just swinging in the air and running around trying to dodge their attack animation but if you move too much, you will miss your next swing. And because the enemy is a flat picture, they keep disappearing when you get too close.

Also, the dialogue is just awkward/not funny since it feels like it's trying too hard and enemy AI have a tendency to get stuck in corners for some reason or just stand there without moving while I am looking at them through a chain fence that I can shoot through.

The music was nice and so were the levels, but after backtracking for the nth time opening a door you already opened before to another 20 goon clones that you swore you already killed, I just hit ALT+F4 since I wasn't having any fun.
