Pros: You get to play as the monkey, which adds a few more interesting puzzles

Cons: The story is less compelling and the puzzles are even more obtuse than the first game. Also, it's possible to still make several hours of progress AFTER unknowingly putting the game in an unwinnable state. It's actually pretty easy to softlock - I found quite a few people complaining about it when I went looking for solutions.

UPDATE: I hex-edited my save so that I could get past the softlock. The endings weren't worth it.

It could be that you needed to scare the monkey away with an item, in order to then combe back and use the "appease" action to get him to be friendly again... because it happened to me that after being scared away, a monkey comes back with the status "angry but may be appeased".

If I remember right, you have to feed the monkeys to make them like you, and there is a finite number of items you can gather to feed them. If you make them angry, you need more items than is possible to collect. You could unknowingly make them angry, make hours of progress, and then suddenly not be able to progress because you need them to be happy.
