The game is an easy recommendation, more so if you enjoy game like Vampire survivor.

The unique presentation coupled with the banger soundtrack alone, personally, blow past a lot of the game in similar genre. Detaching itself from the usual norm and visual but also keeping the overall base concept simple by adding it's own flair and presentation to the upgrades, the "stage selection" acting as a way to adjust the challenge/difficulty or the bullet-hell bosses, give the game a unique feel while staying comfy.

The story is a unique and interesting touch but isn't forced upon you. You can, if you want to, just flat out ignore it and focus on the gameplay and unlocks but it add another layer of interest and charm to the game as whole and separate it from the usually only gameplay focused with story as just a footnote or theme.

This is partly incomplete, i mainly played Spyro 1 (120%) and quickly tested 2 and 3.
As a great fan of Spyro (and often replay through 1 to 3 at least once a year) can safely say this remake is amazing.
It does come with some flaws and changes i'm not fan (some enemies sound got changed, can't charge + long jump...) but compared to Crash remake this is much tighter and feel closers to the original games.
If you're fan of the game go for it, it's worth it.

It's good but it come with lot of flaws.
It can be visual bland at times compared to the original games
Some of the gameplay feel drastically different an easy example is the hitbox being round and smaller meaning some jump require tighter control, some jump in crash 2 now require the crouch jump when before they didn't etc.
The visual improvement come with an issue that happen mainly on the bear chase or animal ride level. The level being entirely loaded come at the cost of messing up a lot of jump while before the ps1 progressively loaded element as moved meaning you could dash more often while in this version you have to not dash or you'll mess up greatly the timing on lots of element.

Despite those flaws the remake is amazing to play and enjoy. Spyro one is much better and closer to the original than Crash one but it's still highly enjoyable and good trip into nostalgia.

It's pretty bad, you'd have more fun around a leper belly button.
The kb+m control are poorly mapped i just stumbled by luck on the menu/inventory key (r ) but it's
expected for a poor console port so maybe it's better with controller.
The gameplay is more rigid than a gay orgy fueled with poppers and viagra.
The graphism are a muddy unoptimised mess.

The music is... nice i guess?
Kinda lame as the game got an interesting setup, theme and ambiance (if you forget the watch dog 2 edgy death) but it's shadowed by lot of issue, probably will be better in a couple patch

tl;dr you like spooky horror that isn't boo your face, but more slow paced, with spooky environment, dog to maul your face and weird ♥♥♥♥ and people to discover an even more weird storyline. Go ahead and buy, a must have.

•Darkwood is a slow paced, top down, action and atmospheric horror. It's aim is to scare and disturb you without using the usual cheap trick of let's trow a spooky image along with spooky or high volume sound to make people jump of their chair. But instead, prefer to use just a bit of weird music, enough to keep you stressed and then.. a door open on it's own.. and so you ♥♥♥♥ your pants because why this door would open? i barricade the one after it, spooky ghost stop it, let me pass the night i just want to pass the night, as you repeat the word, curling and crying on the floor as someone bash at your window to get in and steal your face.
•The gameplay is cut in the 2 part with a day and night cycle. During the day you explore the "Darkwood" in search of answer after a man decided to punch you in the gabbler for not telling why you have a key, so you go after said man because, man, that's your key like, why he did this, this is mean.. So you explore, find creepy location, burned down house, a corn field to remake your favorite scene from Sign or any movie involving corn field.
And at night, you hide in your hideout because you dont want to party with the potential monster face eating savage flying worm and big evil doggo. Night event can differ a lot from just nothing happening, to "monster" harrassing your defence to other spooky event.
•But let's not forget, this aint no amnesia or horror game with a protagonist unable to defend for himself, we aint some weak ♥♥♥♥♥ and we can apply the hammer of leave me the ♥♥♥♥ alone with a small selection of weapon to defend ourself, ranging from a basic piece of wood with nail to the much more heavy duty STICK to a more traditional handgun, shotgun, rifle etc.. Because darkwood is also about crafting but.. crafting isn't here to build a world full of wonder like a new game of minecraft 10s before doing a peen with cobblestone but more as a way to gain tool to survive. With basic lockpick to torch and bandage, there's quite a small list of item with the right quantity of elbow grease that can help you figure out more of the intriguing story and creepy world that is Darkwood.
•Graphism wise, the game is gorgeous in its genre. Dont expect super fancy 3d effect explosion and top quality color, it's a horror game not happy land and shooty bang bang. The grim, colored and dull environment push forward the dying and creepy feeling of the environment, the character design enhance the weird decrepit and disease feeling of the darkwood.

All in all, it's quite a fun game, give it a try i highly recommend it and the dev even pushed so far for promotion that they uploaded, by themself, a copy of the game for dem pirate yarr to give it a try and enjoy it before buying.
I highly suggest supporting the dev, they've been working for so long on Darkwood that they deserve the praise.
Bought the game day one it landed on steam and at time regretted it but in the end i kept with and i must say im quite happy that AcidWizzard manage to do it and hold on their creation till the end.

Enjoy the game, bash some savage with some stick and set fire to their evil monster doggo. And stay safe in your hideout
