My childhood just flashed before my eyes in 4K.

Review: As someone who spent countless hours glued to a CRT TV playing the original PS1 classics, this trilogy made me incredibly emotional. Toys for Bob treated my childhood with absolute respect. They didn't change what made the games masterpiece platformers; they just made them look exactly the way my inner child remembered them.

Pure Nostalgia: Hearing the original gem-collecting sound effects and seeing the iconic level portals gave me instant goosebumps.

The Music: Being able to toggle Stewart Copeland's original soundtrack on the fly is an incredible feature that every remake needs to adopt.

Dragon Redesigns: In the original, the rescued dragons looked identical. Here, every single elder dragon has a unique, stunning personality and design that fits their world perfectly.

Perfect Muscle Memory: The levels are identical brick-for-brick. My 25-year-old muscle memory kicked in immediately, and I found every hidden area and egg exactly where I left them.

The Pain Is Real: They preserved the difficulty perfectly. The speedway flying time-trials are still infuriating, and hearing "Trouble with the trolley, eh?" gave me instant, rage-inducing PTSD.

The Verdict:
This is the ultimate love letter to classic PlayStation fans. It is the perfect, cozy, and occasionally stressful trip down memory lane. 120% worth it.

I played all three games on the PS1 back in the day and hadn't thought about them since, yet the level designs and soundtrack immediately felt familiar again and hit me with a wave of nostalgia - crazy what your brain still remembers after more than 20 years.

Finally experiencing Spyro on PC is a treat. The graphical overhaul is well done, with most characters getting a redesigned look, and some cutscenes have been reworked as well. The gameplay remains virtually unchanged, which is exactly what you'd want from a remaster.

That said, not everything held up. Some minigames have aged poorly - either dragging on too long or suffering from slightly clunky controls. It's also clearly a console port: playing above 60 FPS causes Spyro to slowly drift while standing still, and in certain levels, high framerates prevent animations from triggering, forcing you to cap the game at 60 for those sections.

I 100%'d the entire trilogy including all achievements. Played it both on PC under Linux and on the Steam Deck, and it ran wonderfully on both. Had my fun and would recommend it to anyone who remembers these games from back in the day.
