Tornado of Rats
--------------------------------------------
This morning I sent the carrier pigeon
The one that ends it all
Throwing it into the air, I wanted to cry
But dammit, this well's gone dry
Not for the money, not for the fame
Not for the power, just no more games

But now I'm safe in the eye of the tornado (of rats)
I can't replace all my dead french friends, that let a 1000 days go
No more living trapped by the inquisitors
In that way I'll surely die
In the eye of the tornado (of rats), squeak me away!

I was having some issues with stuttering and crashes, just like everyone else, until I turned off all of the ray-tracing stuff, as well as v-sync, depth of field, motion blur, and film grain (I'm not a fan of DoF, blur, and grain anyway). Am I a little miffed that I can't use the ray-tracing? Totally. It looks reeeeally good. But the game looks great without it, and I'm hoping that after a bit of patching it will become a little more stable with the RT. So I'm currently running it at 1440P and the benchmark says I average around 90FPS. I could bump it up to 4K but I enjoy all them frames. It could definitely use an optimization pass by the devs (please).

I am personally liking the gameplay, with its mix of melee and firearm goodness, but it does have a different mouthfeel than Dead Space, which this is obviously going to get compared to heavily. I'm only a couple hours into it so far, so I can't speak to how gunplay may change. But fair warning, the gameplay is different than Dead Space, so you may or may not like it. You will definitely get a feel for it within the 2 hour mark, however, so feel safe in knowing that you can refund it if it ain't your thing. The atmosphere, sound, art direction, and everything similar is very Dead Space. The main character dude is cool without being annoying, and the character models are pretty like-life and realistic. The gore is gore-y and the deaths are cringe-inducing (good cringe, not bad cringe!). Story so far seems intriguing.

I wanted to get a realistic review out there amongst the sea of (justifiable) negatives. I hope they continue to patch the game up because it is thus far a pretty darn good sci-fi horror treat.

My Specs:
CPU: I7-12700
GPU: RTX 3070TI
RAM: 32GB

Missing some of what made the original great, but still a good romp through modern day Murrica!

Early Access Review
I am unabashedly willing to admit to being a filthy Crate fan-shill-boy, and for good reason. Quality. SOVL. Content that just tickles my 'tism. I am looking forward to seeing this game evolve over early access, like I wish I could have done with Grim Dawn.

Will update as I continue to play, but currently on my wishlist is:
- more freedom with the camera a la Cities:Skylines
- photo mode and more HUD/UI options (for those comfy sweet screenies *chefskiss*)
- like some others have said; even more options for managing systems within the game, like stock of resources and movement of them

Even with these things that I think would make the game even greater, it still stands on its own as a fun ride thus far. Let's go!

Mmmmm Grim Dawn. After 700+ hours in Path of Exile I realized I had a problem, and needed to quit.. then I found Grim Dawn and I'll be darned if I don't like it GOODER than PoE!

IT REALLY TICKLES MY 'TISM

It gets an "A" for effort, but "C-" for execution. Pick it up on sale if you like souls-like and sci-fi, but prepare yourself for some jank that can be endearing at one point and frustrating at the next.
