What can I say that wasn't already said? The most captivating game of all time (or certainly one that stole most of my gaming time without me realizing!) is back! It's MUCH bigger and MUCH better. If nothing else, let my stats do the talking, it's been little over 24 hours and Steam is telling me I've played for... 17.

All Hail Butterlord!

EARLY ACCESS, 2 hours in review, to be updated later!

It's a very ambitious, well thought out game that the sole dev is slowly pushing forward. Game already has a good amount of content, from my perspective I love the weapons and armor which are quite accurate, historically speaking.

Give it a go as a turn based, medieval combat games are not easy to come by and this one could shape up to be truly special.

UPDATE: I love the support and TLC this game is getting from its developers! great updates, it's even better now!

Great little (and I mean little, DL took seconds and was something like 350 MB!) gem in the turn-based strategy vein of Battle Brothers, which is high praise coming from someone that has played 500 hours (last I recall) of that game. Not that it's a short game by any means, procedurally generated world is a gift that keeps giving, nodes respawn with new encounters, calamities (world events of sort, never good ones as the name indicates) bring a new twist to battles - I've won a few hard skirmishes thanks to vampires or beasts distracting the opponents.
Lots of variety of classes (I've had several restarts and I still haven't seen all of them), tons of perks, mutations, relics and what have you. About the only thing I miss is the customization (as in visually reflected armor and weapons) but I understand that it'd be very hard to implement.
Having said that (and as much as I wish that at least legendaries were visible on our characters) art is really memorable, reminiscent of Darkest Dungeon with a bit of Dark Souls type brooding character.
Devs seem really involved and from what I see (I followed the progress of the development over last few months) this game will become better and better. If modding is implemented, I can see Urtuk having a really long life with cult like following.
I can highly recommend this game to any and all turn based strategy lovers, we were due for more medieval, low fantasy flavor and Urtuk delivers.

I don't write many reviews, but this game definitely deserves it. I'll try and be brief and to the point so we can all get back to playing ASAP!

PROS:

1. Quest system: after 15+ hours I haven't had a single fetch quest. Most of them you can solve in multiple ways.

2. Dialogue: well written and although in old timey style, it isn't pretentious and really fits the game. As a bonus, most voice work is great which is surprising for a smaller dev.

3. Combat: its fluid and well executed, tactical pause is a must on hard+. Challenging but not maddening. (unless yoy try and do arena at level 5, bring some pots and antidotes is all I'm saying...)

4. World building: factions are believable and they have their own motivations that make sense in game. Natives have many tribes with their own approach, as well. While they reuse assets, it's not as bad as DA2, imo and the game looks good.

5. Stability: not a single crash or even major FPS loss (tho I understand this is down to individual machine probably and mine is a decent rig).

CONS:

1. While combat is fun, enemy variety is lacking (which I understand, but still).

2. Facial animations are off (not hugely distracting).

3. Customization of your character is pretty basic, less options than in most modern RPGs.

4. Few bugs such as killed enemies stay up (stealth killed Naut guards in New Selene for instance). Not major but definitely something to iron out.

TLDR a great, unique western RPG with a few quirks but very enjoyable. Highly recommended! Thanks Spiderman. Err... Spiders!

The best Warhammer experience in gaming. We are lucky that WHFB is still garnering attention enough to warrant new PC games coming out and this one is by far the best strategy experience to scratch that fantasy army general itch. Highly recommended (and if you like mods, you're in for a treat)!

Real fun game, it is amazing that one guy not only created it but also manages to update it while working on a sequel. Very engaging sandbox RPG features. I'm honestly surprised to see some recent negative reviews as this game does exactly what it sets out to do and I have encountered no serious bugs in my 45 hours of play time. Bottom line? I played Survivalist for few more hours than I played State of Decay 2!

Can't wait for the sequel.

Battle Brothers, even now (still in Early Access) is an amazing case of EA DONE RIGHT: frequent updates of the game itself, coherent and detailed road map, big dev log every Friday without fault. If on ly other games took the cue out of Overhype's book!

Now, the game itself is a mix of XCOM and JA with a medieval low fantasy setting (armors, weapons all reflect that and are actually well researched and accurate). You manage a band of mercenaries who gain stats as they complete variety of quests on the big, generated map (so no pkaythrough is the same). You compete with Undead, Orcs, Bandits and noble houses of (at times) conflicting interests.

Game art style is amazing and mechanics are very well done and easy to learn.

All in all, one of the few games I can WHOLEHEARTEDLY and without reservation recommend to anyone with even a passing interest in the squad tactics games, low fantasy setting or coolm distinctive art style.
