Literally one of the 🐐 games imo.

Depending on how you feel about the core gameloop on offer here (delivering packages, raiding bandit camps, fighting BTs, traversing the large open world, etc.) will, imo, greatly determine whether or not you will enjoy this game and/or how much you will enjoy this game. YMMV.

Some additional thoughts:
- The game is gorgeous
- The soundtrack to this game is pretty good (and, a little ways into the game, you receive what is essentially an in-game portable MP3 player so that you can listen to music while you go around delivering packages and doing missions - which is pretty cool)

Additional Context
I already got the platinum for this game on PS5 when the game first launched last year.

NOTE: This is an updated AND spoiler-free review that I am posting after unlocking all achievements for this game on 3/18/26...

Review
'Resident Evil Requiem' (aka Resident Evil 9) blends some of the best aspects of my personal favorite game in the franchise - RE7 - with, imho, elevated and improved Leon Kennedy combat sections from those found in Resident Evil 4: REmake.

Because the feel of Grace's sections are similar to RE7, I knew very early on that I was really going to enjoy this game. Leon's gameplay sections are a blast too as, if you upgrade your kit properly, you basically will find yourself blasting through hordes of zombies in an RE zombie-slaying power fantasy. (One thing that I found interesting is that the weapon upgrading interface that you encounter in the Leon sections of the game is something that is very similar to the interface of the games 'WW:Z' and/or 'John Carpenter's Toxic Commando' when purchasing weapon upgrades.)

As I have come to expect with the mainline Resident Evil games, the graphics and sound design in this game are both EXCELLENT!

Also, I have good news for the game completionists out there!... as this is probably(?) the easiest RE game to "platinum", and - in order to avoid spoilers - I'll just say that that is, "... because of reasons". 🙂

Anyways, I really enjoyed my time with this game. CAPCOM has already announced that additional story content and other stuff is already in the works for this game - and of course, having been a long-time RE fan along with really enjoying this game, I'm basically a lock for anything else they end up releasing for this game.

CAPCOM, you can't put out Resident Evil content and games fast enough for this fan! 😁

Context
I have been playing the Resident Evil games ever since picking up 'Resident Evil: Director's Cut' on PS1 when it was released back in 1997.

I have also 100%-ed most of all of the games in the franchise. As the franchise is so storied, there are a few titles that I have opted to skip or that I have just simply never played.

My original review
(... posted at around 6-7 hours of gameplay iirc.)

I've been playing RE games since the first one came out on PS1... so of course I was super excited for this one. The game is awesome so far!

Capcom, please add a 'Turn Voice Wobble [OFF]' option for Grace. 😆

Game seems awesome, but it doesn't run well on my laptop with a 4070M. 😢 The game hitches continually as I play. I am requesting a refund. Hopefully they'll optimize the game... or I'll just have to wait until I get a better gaming laptop / PC. 😢

Bloober, if you optimize this game, and make it so that it will run smoothly on my 4070M (8GB VRAM), I would INSTANTLY re-purchase this game!

This game was a BANGER in 2014 when it first released, and it's STILL a BANGER now in 2026! (I fully completed this game at launch on XBOX back in 2014. Sometime in early 2026 I will likely upload an entire 'NEW GAME' playthrough of this game to my YouTube.
UPDATE: My playthrough was posted on 1/17/2026.)

My take on this game
If you like SCARY survival horror games that offer ALOT of interactivity and variety in combat... then I would HIGHLY suggest that you check this game out!

(This game is ABSOLUTELY one of my favorite games of all time btw. 😁)

The game is quite scary, quite suspenseful, and the gameplay is varied and fun!...

However, there are a few gameplay sequences in this game (a few in particular during the back half of the game) that can be pretty stressful.

Combat
Just a little bit of advice for those new to this game:

This game is NOT like other TPS games, where all that matters is your aim...
In fact, your pistol in this game has an 'accuracy' stat that will cause you to miss shots from time to time and, depending on your distance to your target, even if your reticle is lined up properly on your target. (Tip: you're gonna want to upgrade the accuracy on your pistol at some point.)

INSTEAD...

To succeed in combat in this game it is IMPORTANT that you learn the combat methodologies that the game wants you to use... as the most effective way to kill enemies is not necessarily just by shooting them (like in other games). The Evil Within's environments are loaded with traps and other interactable objects that you can you to your advantage. Lastly, if all else fails, you can stealth kill enemies with a knife in this game as well.

Closing Remark
I mean... what else is there to say about this game except that it's one of the GOAT Survival Horror games?! Shinji Mikami really is a master Survival Horror game autuer!

Getting this game running on my PC was not difficult at all... I'm using a gaming laptop running Windows 11...
... all I had to do was download a file from NVIDIA's website called 'PhysX_9.10.0224_SystemSoftware.exe', install it, and the game ran just fine. (Throughout my playtime, the game has only crashed on me once.)

Context for this Review
I originally played this game on PS3 when it was originally released in 2008. Trophies were eventually patched into this game and I went for the 100%, but I was unfortunately unable to beat the final boss of the game on the hardest difficulty so I am missing (1) trophy for this game. 😔

REVIEW
I REALLY like this game. I think it's fun, if not a little challenging and frustrating at times. The most frustrating aspect of this game, imho, is using the bionic arm to traverse the game world - it is EXTREMELY timing-based... so much so that sometimes it feels like it is a matter or sheer luck or not that determines whether or not you can get the grapple that you are looking for. (If you are thinking "skill issue" - that's valid, but I think most people that have put alot of time into this game - as I have - would agree with me.)

Also, since I brought up trophies up above, I just want to note here that this game does not support STEAM achievements.

Overall, I think this game is great. The graphics for the environments aren't that amazing, but the character models look great. Some things that REALLY stand out to me about this game: the EXCELLENT soundtrack, the humor of the writing for this game, the challenge this game offers.

I will just end this "review" by saying that this game could REALLY use some sort of updated guide or YouTube video - ideally someone would post complete maps of all the stages in their entirety. But alas, unfortunately this is a mostly forgotten and somewhat difficult-to-access game of a bygone era, so I doubt that will ever happen.

If the game didn't have fairly major stuttering issues on PC, it would be absolutely fine...
But instead, what should be a pleasant survival horror experience turns into one that is annoying and repeatedly snaps you out of the immersion of playing the game due to its technical issues on PC - which to my understanding has to do with data streaming when loading the world during traversal. I am still going to give this game a positive review, because, from what I hear, it performs better on consoles. But I will say that this game feels more like a 'remaster' than a true 'remake' to me. Clearly, Motive put some extra attention and love into re-designing certain levels/areas/sequences of the game, which of course is very much appreciated, but most the game remains basically a remaster of the original game. Still a fun game (again, better on console from what I hear) to play if you enjoy survival horror games.

If anyone from EA can see this - Dead Space 2 BADLY needs the remake treatment as well!!! Like, MORE than Dead Space 1 did!

Chu Chu Rocket... but in 3-D, and with people instead of mice? I approve.

This game has a nice ambient electronic soundtrack. It's a pretty chill game. The stages / puzzles can be pretty good brain teasers - so you get a sense of accomplishment when you finally figure out how to beat a level and simultaneously achieve all its side objectives as well. However, some of the levels have the potential to get frustrating. (I haven't used any guides yet... so we'll see.)

A good way to kill some time and I like the aesthetic. Reminds me of games from my childhood like - Lemmings, Intelligence Qube, Chu Chu Rocket, and Kagero: the Deception.

Resident Evil 7 (aka Wife Rescue Simulator 1) is my favorite Resident Evil game (and I've basically 100%-ed all of the RE games and been playing them since the first game was released on PS1!). This very well might end up being my favorite single player FPS game of all time. (I've beaten this game at least ten times and put probably over 160 hours into it at least... and on XBOX, I have 100% achievements for this game; which you can check out - my GT is in my STEAM profile.)

Honestly the number of times I've beaten this game and my total play time might be wayyy more than what I've written here. At some point I may check my XBOX profile and come back and update this review with more accurate statistics lol.)

This is probably my favorite Dead Rising game. (I've played DR1 through DR3 and everything in between aka all the side games - i.e. Case West, Case Zero, etc.)

Imo this is a very interesting roguelite game (with perhaps a little bit of a learning curve).

I must say, that I'm really enjoying this game after 30 hours of gameplay. That said, I wasn't crazy about it at first and I even tried to refund it initially because I was running into an issue where textures on almost everything on the screen wouldn't load after 1-2 hours of play. STEAM ultimately rejected my request for a refund and - I'm ngl - I'm kinda glad that they did as I really started to warm up to the game once I started to understand the game mechanics.

At least to me, this game seemed to be advertised as a 3rd person shooter bullet hell roguelite in all it's trailers and things that I heard and read about it... which on it's own is already cool... but ultimately I thought it might be kind of gimmicky... I thought maybe this game was just a cash-grab since roguelite games have become more and more popular in the last 10 years...

What I DIDN'T expect is what this game evolves into. WARNING: potential spoilers ahead.

Once a run picks up momentum (aka if you don't get killed halfway thru the first biome that you're starting on) the game transitions basically into a 3D roguelite Metroidvania game - meaning if you know what you're doing, you should reach a point where you basically become too powerful for you to die in the game UNLESS you f--- up a special combat room encounter or a boss fight. (That said, every now and then the game will spawn in a really tough enemy that may have the potential to kill you, but again, if you know how to play the game, you should be able to kill said enemy.)

It's the transition from 3D roguelite bullet hell to a beautiful 3D roguelite bullet hell Metroidvania game that had me clamoring for more of this game. If not for work/travel, trust me when I say that I would definitely be playing more of this!
