Honestly, this is such a let down. I was confused most of the time on what was even going on. The tutorials are surface level and don't explain any of the new mechanics well at all.

I get wanting to change it up since RTS in and of itself can be very monotonous but this feels like CIV for kids but with the directions written by a rocket scientist. You don't get to build what you want on tiles, you can't automate anything, the character models are cartoonish and the UI is just utterly confusing. The only thing that makes this "Civilization" is the fact that it is an RTS and has Sid Meier's name on it.

I hate have to give a negative review for this game because I LOVED the first one but Slime 2 is a massive disappointment. SO much so that the last time I even played it was Feb of 2023.....and I just checked back now to see if they've made any progress which is why I'm just now writing this review.

I keep waiting for some major game-play/content update but I've only seen a few medium sized ones and I honestly just play the first one instead. There isn't a lot of communication on their timeline or road map which is frustrating because I understand this game is EA but after 2 years we've barely got anything to show for it.

It looks good, it plays good, and there are some really cool aspects of 2 but there is no real meat to the core play-ability of the game especially if you have played the first. It has been in EA for a very long time now with no massive update. Yes, there have been updates that are on the larger side, but there is so much "world" and nothing to do in it. It is an easy game so most people can hit the "end game" quickly like I did. I would highly suggest playing the first one and skipping out on the 2nd until they give us more to play.

Update after reaching current endgame. first patch, and release of roadmap:

I understand that some people are frustrated with the game and that's ok. What I don't get is all of the negative reviews repeating the same things over and over because they haven't read the updates from the devs. This game is EA, and while I won't defend some of their questionable choices for the amount of crafting you have to do, I will defend the fact that they are clearly listening compared to other EA games recently.

Updates they've announced recently:
Offline mode (stop giving bad reviews for this, they have said they are working on it.)
QoL - crafting from nearby storage, auto storage stack, NPC fixes, queued crafting, skip tutorial, disconnect issues, improved AI, and new items.

Is the crafting a bit tedious? Yes. But I've gone through just as much in Minecraft to craft stuff to get the good items. You do have to grind for resources but I think people are not utilizing the gameplay mechanics correctly of the minor cards. If you don't want to chop down 30 trees for 100 wood, play a lumber mill card. 400+ wood in about 5 minutes. Want more ingots? Play an industry card. The realm changes are so well done and there are tons of cards that help with the "grind" people keep complaining about.

Is the game perfect? No, but even with some of the hiccups that I've run into Nightingale is still a very good game. Compared to other Early Access games I've played there is far more game play than most others.

Pros:
Very good world graphics
In depth UI (ignore what people say it really isn't that complicated)
Good story and background
Unique theme and world
Lots of character customization
Lots of content for being Early Access

Cons:
Still quite a few minor bugs, but not game breaking.
AI is a little too predictable but still can be difficult if underestimated
Character models in comparison to the world aren't as great
No voice acting for NPCs (yet)

Overall this is well worth the $30 price point as long as Inflexion holds true to updating the game in a timely fashion (Looking at you Slime Rancher 2) QOL patches really aren't necessary yet and I would much rather them focus on the content of the game itself rather than inventory sorting, but I believe Inflexion deserves a pat on the back for a PvE survival game that looks and feels different to all the others.

This game is just too adorable. The slimes are so cute, the other entities are so sweet (except the pesky tarr!). It's a great game overall even with the limited content. It's still a young game so as such there isn't quite as much to do but don't worry! Once you get your slimes all in order and start really feeding them you won't have a minute to rest!

Pros:
  1. Graphics/Art - Perfect for such a cute game!
  2. Music - It has a nice melody for night/day and when you are in trouble
  3. Easy to play - If you want a game that you can just play this is it.

Cons:
  1. Not much content(yet) - After some time it gets really repetitive but that is to be expected as it is still early access. That being said if you don't like games that aren't mostly done this may not be for you. This is probably the only con I have. I can't wait for more and wish they had some help to move things a long a little faster :)
